Re: Andrew Lessman 'Fibermucil' vs laxative

Same here:  Chia seeds ( agree, great in pudding ), veggies, fruits...tons of fiber.  No need for supplementation.

I take them daily. They are mild and just add fiber. I take Flax Seed and Chia Seeds, which also add fiber. I always try to increase fiber. That's all that's necessary to be happy every day. Smiley Happy

I just looked up the ingredients in Benefiber.  I follow a Paleo diet, so this would be a hard no for me.  Plus, what exactly is the main/active ingredient here?

Ingredients: wheat dextrin, citric acid, maltodextrin, aspartame**, natural flavors, potassium citrate, acesulfame potassium, tricalcium phosphate, calcium silicate, gum arabic, magnesium oxide, titanium dioxide, red 40
**PHENYLKETONURICS: CONTAINS PHENYLALANINE

You may be looking at a different Benefiber formula, mine is the original formula with the green top and the only ingredient in it is Wheat Dextrin. And it is considered gluten and sugar free. Nothing else is in there. I also use the Walmart brand or Kirkland brand, and these also contain only the one ingredient.

Re: Andrew Lessman 'Fibermucil' vs laxative

[ Edited ]

I have had a ton of stomach issues and other things and last year was treated by a doctor for some issues.  I was told stimulant laxatives are not something that should be taken on a regular basis because your body could become dependent on them for going.  I was told to take Miralax everyday.  Miralax is considered an osmotic laxative meaning it draws water from your body into your colon.  A softener draws water directly into the stool.  Neither of these products do a thing for me.

I began taking a fiber supplement that I get through Love Wellness.  You start off taking 1 a day for a few days so your body can get used to it. Then you increase to 2 a day for a few days and ultimately you work up to 3 a day.  I do fine taking 2 a day so that is where I stopped.

I tried AL Fibermucil in the past and all it did was make me feel bloated and not good.

Just eat one teaspoon of ground golden flaxseed every day, followed by a full glass of water.  Put chia seed in your oatmeal or yogurt.  You'll never have a problem and you get nutrients in the bargain.

Just curious about whether anyone is taking a stool softener and is happy with it?   I knew someone who took one daily and was happy as a clam with the steady results she got.

Anyone?

I take a softener everyday. It's a Dulcolax generic. If I don't take it everyday then I'm in trouble. I also take pure psyllium powder...that's like Metamucil but w/o any sugar or other additives, @Tinkrbl44

Chia seeds, like most other seeds and many nuts, contain large amounts of arginine. I cannot eat stuff with lots of arginine b/c that causes me to have really bad cold sore outbreaks. The virus feeds on arginine so it's food for them and they multiply.

@Tinkrbl44   Personally, I wouldn't do that everyday.  IMO, it trains your body to depend on it.  I'd rather consume foods that help to keep things moving along and keep the plumbing working as it was intended to.

I never knew!  Good fact to know.
