So for those who have read my previous long post about my surgery to remove the knee replacement hardware on 6/26. I saw the infectious disease specialist yesterday, everything is going well so far. I am still getting the home IV antibiotics, he expects this will continue until 8/7. Still on a walker, off the pumps to prevent blood clots, continue with knee brace, TED stockings. Doctor changed the dressing, my BF saw the incision for the first time and couldn't believe how long it is. Midcalf to about 2 inches above my knee.. This is quite a ordeal, I was feeling a bit down yesterday, BF has been awesome, he does the antibiotic treatments every 8 hrs thru the picc line which requires a syringe of saline, antibiotic, saline again then heparin. Talking to my 4 yo grandson via Facetime is my biggest joy. of the day. I'm hanging in there, this too shall pass, just venting I am truly blessed.

@Goodie2shoes I am so sorry to hear about your knee replacment experience. I had a reverse total shoulder replacment last December and know what a long road you traveled even before the infection, An infection was my biggest worry with joint replacement surgery. I was fortunate that my surgery went well and I had reached a point in PT where I could stop going into the outpatient rehab just before the COVID lock down occurred. Like you, my incision is long. Strangely, everyone kept telling me what a fantastic healer I was (never told that before) when the only change I made was to take amino protein supplements. I started these when I heard on a PBS interview that they help healing. Took the Andrew Lessman Essential Amino Proteins. So good that home iv therapy is possible, and praises to your partner for doing these. Keep us posted on your progress.

@Goodie2shoes So good to hear you're doing better and all indications that this will resolve without further intervention. What a great BF to help you get through this!
Hang in there...you're doing great!

Best wishes to you for a full recovery! I am also drinking Ensure plus protein. I will probable have the repeat knee replacement surgery sometime in September which will be 1 year post the initial replacement then back to therapy again. Again wishing you the best recovery, thanks

I know this must be a tough tough road. Hang in there...it will pass!
Do they know how your replacement got infected?

I know this must be a tough, tough road. But it will pass, even though right now it seems like forever! Hang in there. Before long it will be a distant memory!
Do they know how your replacement got infected?

@Goodie2shoes It sounds like you've been through quite a lot. I'm sorry for your ordeal. You are fortunate to have such a wonderful boyfriend.
I wanted to suggest Premier Protein shakes for you. They are delicious and have 30 grams of protein. You can buy them at Target and Walmart as well as many grocery stores. Our Kroger carries them. They taste much better than Ensures IMO.
I'm glad you're on the road to recovery now.

@Goodie2shoes I am thankful to hear that you are on the road to recovery! Keep the faith, stay strong and rest, relax and be restored. You are blessed to have a good samaritan taking care of you.

After my knee and shoulder replacements, I was always worried that an infection would set in and the replacement would need to come out. Some depression is to be expected. I'm glad you have a supportive BF and a delightful grandson.
