I read about this a couple of days ago. It feels like the flu, but isn't. Very dangerous!

If interested, you'll need to google cause I won't risk posting a link here.

copy/paste:

The adenovirus has many of the flu's telltale symptoms but is rarely tested by doctors, leaving patients miserably sick until it passes.

Like the flu, the adenovirus can lead to many other illnesses, like upper respiratory infections, pneumonia and bronchitis. But, since there are 52 strains of the virus, it can also lead to other complications like gastrointestinal illnesses, urinary tract infections and pink eye.

Symptoms of the virus include fever, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose and a cough, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, making it difficult to discern from the flu.

"It would be really hard to tell it apart from influenza," Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security senior scholar Dr. Amesh Adalja.

The article goes on to say it's administered to the military, but not approved for the rest of us

Interestingly, I read that Clorox kills adenovirus. If only there were something guaranteed to kill any and all flu viruses.

The last time I had the flu was 1986, but I pick up an adenovirus every year that leads to acute sinusitis.

AD infections are self-limiting, don't exhibit epidemic proportions and rarely pose a serious health hazard. Most infections involve children

Had an adenovirus in early December.  Started with a sore throat and it was pretty much like a head and chest cold at the same time for me. I decided to go to the ER when all the coughing started making me short of breath. Diagnosed with Acute Bronchitis, ended up with breathing treatments, antibiotic, prescription cough medicine and an inhaler.  Unfortunately gave it to DH, luckily his didn't advance to bronchitis or other problem.  It lingered for 3-4 weeks.
