I got a Shingles shot, but I still got Shingles.  The shot helps only 50% of the people who get it.  I would still suggest getting it if you’ve had Chicken Pox.  My Shingles lasted over a month and was very painful.  The Pneumonia shot is worthwhile and lasts over 5 years.  Check with your doctor.

i've never gotten a flu shot, but would like to, this year. are you comfortable with getting it from a pharmacy rather than your dr.? do they forward info to dr. ofc, stating what you got? i'm debating on the shingles and pneumonia shot, too. thanks.

@10sluvr, my doctor’s clinic encourages everyone to get their flu shot at a pharmacy.

So do my doctors!!  The flu shot is available at many sites now.  However, I ususally get my senior shot at a small private pharmacy, but they ran out and were not going to order anymore!!  Went to Target and got the senior shot!  No pain at all....arm wasn't even sore!!

Many doctors now encourage patients to get routine vaccinations at their local pharmacy or community clinic days. A small practice with only 1-3 doctors is low on the pole for even getting vaccine, and if it isn’t used they’ve had to pay for it I assume - and store it/keep it fresh - it has “use by” dates.

Large practices get in a supply, but you don’t know when, and they don’t want large numbers of patients wandering in without appts. Last year I just happened to have a routine appt when they had vaccine; they offered and I got it. But this year my next appt isn’t until February, and trying to get an appt just for a flu shot would be a pain there (huuuge waiting room, something like 15 docs on staff) - if they even do it; I doubt it because no one has contacted me saying hey you need your flu shot. I think they mostly expect people to fend for themselves.

I got mine Thursday, not the 65+, the regular one.

They used the pen injector and it's the first time ever that I've had any soreness or redness.

Re: 65+ Flu Shot

[ Edited ]

I got the regular one this week at the CVS Minute Clinic.  No issues.  I had to laugh though because the NP said my skin was so soft, it was like giving a shot to butter!  Guess my lotions are working.  :-)

The thing with those is that it’s pre-set and not good for each individual - like, when diabetics do finger sticks, they adjust to their finger; you need to be able to do that, or OWW.

Many places use the newer thin tiny needle that you seriously don’t even feel, but it’s only used for the regular shots.

I've gotten a flu shot (under 65 version) for several years and last year was the only time that I experienced any pain.  It lasted for multiple days, and I believe that it was due to where they gave me the shot.  It was too high up on the arm and that is why I had all the pain.  I got mine last week and it was lower then last years and I had zero pain.  Maybe the person giving the shot was new, but now I will be sure to check where they are putting the needle in so I don't have to go through the sore arm issue again.  I was miserable for several days but didn't get the flu...on a positive note!

I’ve gotten my under 65 flu shot at the same small pharmacy for decades. This past Saturday, the pharmacist who is usually there wasn’t and a new pharmacist gave me my shot. First time ever the shot hurt and for 2 days I couldn’t life my left arm without pain. Next year I’ll call and make sure the one pharmacist is there-lesson learned.

I hope this years shot protects  better than the one from last year. Our pharmacist commented about last years shot missing the mark

WE always get the shot ,even if it doesn't stop the flu ,it might prevent the severity of the virus

It’s good to see you posting again, @cherry. I’m glad life has calmed down for you.

Yes, it’s always a pharmaceutical kwap shoot as far as the virus strains. But after having a super-bad flu once several years ago I’ve gotten a flu shot ever since. I figure that at worst it would render a bout of flu not as incapacitating.
