I agree with the ideas that  leaving the seal only partly removed and leaving it in the shower are the cause. I have multiple bottles open and seal them up out of season, but I don't leave them at the front of the shower where they constantly get "rained" on. Of course the water would get in and though we like to think our drinking water is pure, it is far from it!
