Re: Trip Report - live from Torres del Paine, Patagonia (January 2019)

@Alicew - thank you!  If you haven’t read the January thread, then you may not know that this is just the warm up (perhaps a bad choice of words!)

@qbetzforreal - YES!!  Thank goodness! I did not start the day in good spirits. Could you imagine me in Antarctica with only an iPhone!!!

All of the Glacier photos were iPhone and you can see some blurring when I was trying to magnify.  Don’t think it’s so awful, but my good camera would have captured the blue better and been sharper.  The afternoon photos were a mix - would not have gotten those last mountain photos with only an iPhone.

Glad everyone is enjoying!

@Alter Ego Super-duper photos again. I just love that mountain range! Hard to describe it to anyone, but the photos describe it quite well.

I didn't know the pisco sour was a Chilean drink. Like you mentioned, it is in Peru too. I'm not a drinker, but I do remember trying this, just a sip though. That's what everyone was talking about in Peru.....have you tried the pisco sour? So, I did.

Sorry about your camera, but really...I think the iPhone is doing a super job for you. We are getting a very good idea of what you experiencing.

Stay safe!

@World Traveler

Apparently there is some disagreement regarding the pisco sour! LOL In Peru, they add egg white and I’m told that bartenders in Chile will also add egg white if they are from Peru.  Had another pisco sour with lunch and my guide said that it looked like it had egg white in it.

Honestly, it reminded me of a regular margarita.

edited to add - and I’m happy you like the mountain range, because I think I took photos of it every 10 feet today!!  And I still have to go out this afternoon!  My guide called this “summit weather”, because it makes you want to climb to the mountain’s summit.  It’s incredibly clear today.

@Alter Ego I think you are right about the pisco sours. We were given the recipe, but I am sure I long ago tossed it out. ha!

I was the same way with the mountain range. I just couldn't get enough of it. The one lodge where we stayed, we could see the beautiful hues from the sky shining down on it when we went to breakfast. And then we would sit by the fire and watch the sun go down. That and the heated floors made it a PERFECT place to stay. Heart

Sorry guys - need a day of rest. In between packing and walking 21,000 steps today, I am beat!! Will post final day tomorrow when I’m back in Punta Arenas.

I didn’t even stop for my daily night cap, that’s how exhausted I am!!

Until tomorrow. 😊

Re: Trip Report - live from Torres del Paine, Patagonia (January 2019)

I’m pretty sure there is no such thing as an “easy” hike in Patagonia.  Maybe “easier” as in “easier than difficult”, but not easy.  At least for me. LOL

I really need to work out.  Hoping this trip will be a kickstarter for me.

All cameras are back in working order, so let’s gets started.

Went on two excursions on Wednesday in the east section of the park.

It’s probably difficult to read on this map, but the highlights are marked #2 and 3.

Re: Trip Report - live from Torres del Paine, Patagonia (January 2019)

The tour started at Laguna Azul Lake, where we got to see the mountain range checking itself out in the mirror of the lake’s water

It was a nice area

But the highlight ended up being this family of geese!  Or...maybe it was a preschool or something, because I have never seen so many babies with one set of parents.  Don’t even think these photos show all of them.

The protective mother

 The fun loving dad

And the babies.  Maybe counted 12 or 15.  A crazy number.

We then hiked the Canadon Macho trial.  I had a great couple with me from Switzerland who loved to stop and take photos so I never worried about keeping up

It was it was so amazing as we were the only one’s there!  And from every point you could see the mountain range - the backside of what I saw the day before.  Particularly the three towers. Note the clear sky.  Was not like that when I left this morning!
