@BExplorer I have gone with a carry-on and a backpack. The problem is when you go with someone else, then you still have to wait at the luggage carousel area for the other person's luggage.

My sister and I went to Iceland/Greenland (2-1/2 weeks). Me with just those two items, no checked luggage, but she had checked luggage. I thought: "Why did I do this? I still have to stand  by the conveyor belt, waiting for luggage.....hers!" ha!

Then I went with someone else to cruise down the Volga River in Russian (2 weeks). Took just the two pieces again; so did the other person. WOW! So nice not to check in luggage and just walk on by that area. However, it was colder than I thought it would be, so I ended up buying a sweatshirt on the boat. Didn't have room to put it in the carry-on or backpack, so had to wear it back home.

BTW......so good to see you posting on this forum. Don't hear from you enough. Heart

I'm impressed @World Traveler

That must have been in your pre-wen days? 😁 You sure are right about not saving yourself time at the luggage check line and at the caurosel if your travel mate checks.

I do keep up on reading most threads in the travel forum, so glad we have it!  I learn so much from the posters!

I have TSA Pre-Check.  The reason I waited so long was because when it first rolled out it was $200 and my company didn't pay for it.  It's $85 now.

However, I travel to a lot of smaller airports and I find that they close it down a lot or turn the line into all Pre-Check so its sort of a waste for me.

The worst was Newark Airport.  They close down Pre-Check at 8 pm.

I believe that the liquids allowance should be on a sliding scale based on age.

In your 20s you can get by on 3 ounces, in your 50s, you should be 10 ounces.

That's exactly why I don't have it.  I fly out of St. Louis amd have seen it closed too many times.  But just to be fair, once is too many to me.  😆
