I have been gluten free for 40 years.  I have traveled all over Asia and some countries in Europe....not France.

I can usually find something to eat, but have attended many weddings that had nothing I could eat.  I just sit there and watch everyone eat...my DH eats my food so my full plate is not wasted.

I am used to it.  I go hungry a lot when going out to a function. It's not easy.

No, it is not easy.  I've had people tell me they made something gluten free especially for me and then gotten sick after eating it.  I just don't take their word for it except my own family who truly understand. I often take my own food in a cooler when we have a car.  I will quietly go out and bring it in to someone's house or an event.  On a flight home from London last year I ordered the GF meal however I have some other allergies and detected something in it so didn't eat much.  A very kind flight attendant noticed and offered me some snacks including a banana--perfect.
