Anyone been to Salem, MA?  I've wanted to go for a long time, especially to see where the movie Hocus Pocus was filmed and other things.  My husband may be traveling to MA and Salem will be only 16 mnutes away.

@ScrapHappy  Yes, and it is so beautiful. There so many beautiful historical buildings downtown.

It is quintessential New England. We also went to the Salem Witch museum as it was during the Fall, which is always a great time to visit the New England states. I would definatley go!

My husband and I spent last Halliween there...lots of fun.  People from all over the world, reservation to museums and certain tourists things are a must on Halloween.

We were able to find parking several blocks but we are big walkers., but they also offer a trolley.

We ate lunch at Finz, nice place on the water. Great people watching and cute little shops.

I'd advise avoiding the "witchy" tourist attractions, which are both tacky, and depressing, when you think about what happened to those poor women.

The House of the Seven Gables is a nice historical house visit, and the Maritime Historic Site is lovely in good weather.  The whole town is pretty much walkable and does get its share of tourists in the summer and at Halloween.  There is Pioneer Village (like a mini Williamsburg) where I believe some of Hocus Pocus was filmed.  Also a good museum (Peabody) with plenty of early Americana.

Thank you.  I would lov to to in the Fall.  It's my absolute favorite time of year.  If my husband goes on business, it would be next month and I hate the hot weather.  I would imagine would be the busiest (and most expensive) time to go and that reservations must be made well in advance.

I love New England and Mass. in particular.  Salem is a fun place to visit and I enjoyed my time there.  I especially liked the House of Seven Gables.  I would recommend Salem and the history and beauty Mass. has to offer.

We used to take the kids every year to Salem (we live in RI) and it certainly is a great town to visit.  We haven't gone in quite some time now but our adult kids still go every year.  It is craziness but still great fun according to them.  They are big into Halloween and I agree with the poster that said make your reservations early or you will be sleeping in your car!

And yes Hocus Pocus was filmed there and Hocus Pocus 2 was filmed in RI, some of it in the next town over from us.  Some was also filmed in NY.  Fun movie!

Hi, @ScrapHappy. I hope you'll enjoy Salem, but I'd also suggest that you drive up to Gloucester, and then make the hop to Rockport.

That way, you'll really get a feel for the New England coast. It's magical!

@ScrapHappy I went years ago...like 2 decades ago! We had fun...different museums, everything about the witch trials, etc. I'm sure some things have definitely changed in that amount of time, but I think it's a fun place to visit..."fun" is a weird word, I guess, to use...since the witch trials etc. aren't exactly happy things...but interesting and a "vibe", for sure.
