I am surprising my GD (13) with a trip to Disney World.  We will be there 3 days & going to Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom Parks.  

Unfortunately, it's going to be hot but she only has summer to visit me.  So, I'm prepared (I think) for it!

I haven't been there in a few years.  Any tips or suggestions are welcomed you could give me.  We are staying on site.

Visiting all three parks in three days is a lot in our heat and humidity.  Decide ahead of time what you absolutely want to do at each park and plan accordingly so you get those things in.  Map out your walking route from activity to activity so you don't waste time or energy getting there.  Allow time for some breaks and swimming at the pool.  Have a great time!

I did check out the website and what I wanted was feedback from those who do Disney.  

I've mapped out pretty much of our days but the nice thing is she will be fun at her age and we can just do it at our pace.

@homedecor1, what a sweet trip and I'm certain it will be filled with memories for both of you.

I think by the age of 13 she's old enough to have some input in planning the trip. That way she'll also have a grasp of what's available and make it "her" trip. I suggest allowing her to pick at least one or two thing each day that she feels are a must see or must do. 

If you or her parents are hesitant for her to do online searching, I suggest picking up a current guidebook. Often half the fun of a trip is the planning.

You may also want to check TripAdvisor and read their forums. I think there's not only the Orlando forum, but also a specific Disney World forum.

Way to go gramma, a very sweet surprise and I'm sure she will love it !  I haven't been there in years and years. My daughter was 12 the last time we went, our 2nd trip, she's 40 now   Enjoy the trip and let us know how it went.  My advice- take lots of pictures and videos ! That's a keepsake moment. I have so many pictures ( we didn't have videos back then)

Walt Disney World Will Now Let You Do This One Thing Before You Arrive

Walt Disney World is making it easier than ever for visitors to plan their park days in advance. 

This week, The Most Magical Place on Earth announced that next month Disney Genie+ service will be replaced with Lightning Lane Multi Pass, while individual Lightning Lane will become Lightning Lane Single Pass. 

With these new services, guests will be able to pre-book their ride times up to a week ahead of the start of their vacation instead of at 7 a.m. the morning of their park visit.

“We enjoy hearing from guests about all the things they love, as well as how we can make their experience even better the next time,” the Florida theme park said in a blog post. “At Walt Disney World, guests have told us they would prefer to have the option to do more of their planning before their theme park day.”       

As such, the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass will offer expedited lines to most attractions and enable guests to make up to three Lightning Lane selections in a theme park in advance. Lightning Lane Single Pass will work much like it does today, allowing visitors to secure a time to ride one high-demand attraction, except in advance.       

Guests staying at a Disney Resort hotel and other select hotels will be able to plan Lightning Lane passes up to seven days in advance, for their entire stay (up to 14 days). All other guests can plan up to three days in advance. 

“These advance purchase windows will let guests secure some of their must-do rides and experiences after they’ve had some time to decide what dining reservations they want to book and any other plans they may need to consider,” the blog post explains.

The new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass can be purchased and used starting July 24, 2024 with the My Disney Experience app. Prices will vary by date, theme park, and attraction.

The Unofficial Guide to Disney World is a must. We used it when our now 27 year old son was little, we went many times and would update with a new purchase every few years.

It's nice to see current reviews say they've used it for decades and still do.

We are going the day before so I'll let her plan what she wants to do.  She hasn't been there since we went when she was 3...

We don't have any plans for the first day (no parks) I figured we'd do the pool, plan our trip and Disney Springs for dinner.

Our park passes aren't until 2nd day (we are technically there 4 days).

Your post brought back some memories for me.  We went yearly.   I sometimes think I liked it better than my children.  When we went with our grandchildren it was so much easier to get to all the rides.  No more waiting 45 minutes.  Scheduled in advance.  Also more important wrist bands as opposed to the booklets with all the tickets.  Unfortunately that was my job to keep them in order.  Have a wonderful trip and make some great memories for you granddaughter and your self,
