Gotta ride the incline to the top of Mt. Washington. Beautiful view of the "Point" and the rest of P-burgh, night or day. As I recall, there are some decent restaurants on the top as well.
ETA: Forgot to mention some great art museums, including the Carnegie and Andy Warhol.
Also, Fallingwater, and other Frank Lloyd Wright houses, are only an hour's drive from Pittsburgh in the beautiful Laurel Highlands.

Don't leave anything of value in your car overnight. In fact, don't leave anything in your car at all.
Pittsburgh is pretty safe, but dang the punk theives love to break windows and steal anything and everything from your car at night.
Enjoy the great food... pierogies, Turners iced tea, Primanti sandwiches, Gobs...also known as Whoopi pies.
Have fun. I hope Yinz have a great time.
Yinz = you
Pittsburgers have a language all of their own.

These are a few of many attractions in "dahntahn" Pittsburgh.

Thank you all for your input. We won't have a car--traveling by Amtrak--so that's not a concern. Plan to do the hop on/hop off bus.
Love pierogies! Didn't know that was a Pittsburgh thing.
I'm looking forward to seeing a new city!

@kaydee50 I read everyone's responses. They are all great recommendations. I lived in the Pittsburgh area for 40 years. I would still be there if I hadn't been offered a teaching position on the eastern side of the state. Plus grandkids came along, so this is where I settled. Now that the grandkids are old enough...we go back every summer. Thankfully I still have family in the area. They love the Science Center and the incline. This year we plan to go to Carnegie Museum. They want to see the dinosaurs.
Yes... Pittsburgh people have a language of their own. Yinz will have a great time.
I will always be a "Stillers" fan. Have fun. 🤗.

I don't know if you and your group are baseball fans but the Pirates play at home at the end of June and their ballpark is really spectacular. There is a drone show by the Zambelli brothers (famous local fireworks company) one of the nights that will light up the city. Some of the other suggestions already mentioned are really good ones...definitely take the incline up to Mt. Washington. There are a couple wonderful restaurants up there. If you want to go to Oakland where the Pitt campus is, you can see the Cathedral of Learning (tallest classroom building in the Western Hemisphere) and the Carnegie Museum. The inside of the Cathedral resembles something out of a Harry Potter movie. Heinz Chapel is also worth a look but is often booked for weddings on the weekend. Phipps Conservatory is just a short walk from there. Enjoy!
