Any tips for traveling to Newport RI?  Places to stay, things to do or not do?

One of most fun trips was staying in Providence, RI for a week.

It is about a 30 min car to Newport.

Everyday we went on a road trip of no more than one hour such as Mystic Ct. Boston is one hour (car or train), ferry access to Block Island, others.

You can google one hour trips from Providence.

Tour the Cliff Walk, beautiful mansions.

Whale watching

It's been many years since I have been there, but the food is wonderful,

Touring the mansions is a fabulous experience if you like antiques and grand displays.  My favorites are the Breakers and Marble House.

I also enjoyed touring Belcourt before Carolyn R. bought it, but I would certainly go back and see what she has done with the place.

There are a lot of high end hotels right in the area, but you can stay a bit outside for a more reasonably priced rate.

Seafood is always on the menu!

The tour of the mansions is a must. Just bring a lot of money. They are expensive

i will echo what everyone else said:

the mansions

the cliff walk

the town

seafood!  food is top notch!

we stayed in an AirBnb, we could walk the town which is nice after dinner, so we didn't have to drive and look for parking.

we went in the Fall and it was beautiful.  i think it would be packed in the Summer.

go over to Block Island.  i hear its beautiful.  we ran out of time.

Have been to Newport at least 5 times since I was about 18. I have seen it change and grow. We went one year in early December and stayed at a B and B right in town.

The Red Parrot and Brick Alley are a few of our favorite places to eat
