Has anyone used the in-terminal transit (not sure what it is really called) to get from check-in/one gate to another?  If so, how did you arrange it and how much did you tip?  Thanks!

Re: In-Terminal Airport Transit

It has been by shuttle bus or train in any airport I've been to. If signage is good you should have no trouble.

Re: In-Terminal Airport Transit

Phila Airport has them.  Some use wheelchairs & others use the golf cart thingie.

You arrainge those things w/the porters who are outside (outside checkin) or at the inside check in w/the ticket agents.

I would suggest that you call your local airport.

If you made arraingments w/a travel agent, they do all that for you.

As for tipping, that is up to you.  I have only seen "tipping" done if the person is using an airport wheelchair.  Never noticed any tipping when using the golf cart thingie.

All the other airports I have been in have shuttle buses, moving floors and trains.

No tipping necessary.

Re: In-Terminal Airport Transit

You can't fly from Dulles airport without using everything imaginable!  It takes forever from the time you're dropped off at the front.

I only fly from there.  I'm leaving in a week for Denver.  The cost is so much I decided to just fly first class (not much difference).  The cost is another bla bla.

Anyway, I use a wheelchair because with my two new knees long distances put a strain on them.  As far as tipping I always probably over tip but I figure if they can push my fat that long distance, it's worth it.  We take elevators, buses, and 'trains' (for real) to get to the area where we FINALLY get on the plane.

My daughter flies from National and that's an old airport not at all like Dulles...Senators and Congressmen mainly fly out of National.  I've read where that's one of the most dangerous airports because of the way the planes have to come in.  Don't know.  I do know when I was a kid in Alexandria (actually where National is located) we'd go there and the planes would come in so close you could see the people sitting on the plane (for real).  I know it's all changed but it was fun back then.

Thanks, everyone!  We need transport from the ticket agent to the gate.

Re: In-Terminal Airport Transit

Ask a sky cap for a wheelchair when you check in, I tore my hamstring on vacation and could not walk to distance, they were wonderful, I was able to sit in the chair until we boarded the plane

Re: In-Terminal Airport Transit

@I am still oxox, thanks!  I am traveling next week with a torn meniscus and really feel a little silly asking for help.  My ortho wants me off of my feet, but this trip has been planned for months.  I guess it will all depend on how I am feeling the day of travel.

Re: In-Terminal Airport Transit

You don't want to start walking to the gate feeling pretty good and partway there have it start bothering you. My advice is to take the wheelchair or cart. Been there, done that.

Re: In-Terminal Airport Transit

This is off topic but I would appreciate your input.

I was running with my dog, he made a sharp right onto our lawn, I made a sharp right onto our lawn BUT I tripped on a tree root. That was in June. My knee still hurts. I kept thinking it would get better - guess not. Time to go to the Doctor. Should I start with a General Practitioner? Or start out with a Specialist?

I did mention it in early July to my GP. But it was no big concern because I thought it would feel better in days. He just recommended  Alleve.

sxmgirl have a great trip and please be careful.
