Re: First time flying advice

Please, please allow plenty of time at the airport. Friends traveled on a Monday morning (business travelers leaving) and the tsa line took twice as long.  The plane was still at the gate, but the doors  were closed.  They were turned away, and then had to drive to an airport two hours away and faced the same issues again.  I'd rather have an extra coffee and relax, even if I was too early.   AND they had to meet a 5 pm cruise departure.

They barely made the second flight, barely made the cruise, but learned a valuable lesson.  A very stressful day, costs at another airport, and another 2 hour drive home when they landed in the evening.   Rebooking costs to charge flights.  The airline at least didn't charge them for the first change, but they did have to pay for the return flight change.

Re: First time flying advice

I don’t do much domestic travel & I don’t know if you have the option, but fly direct if at all possible. If not as another poster advised, allow a lot of time between flights.

It’s not available in all airports but in our airports we can make an appointment for TSA. I’ve used it, loved it, no stress, no crowds.

If you can handle it, business class really cuts the stress. No fighting for the overhead, you get meals, early boarding & off first. Tho we do fly BC, a lot of people do as well so the TSA by appointment is really nice. I like to avoid crowds especially in high flu season.
