@Ainhisg  There are YouTube videos that can answer your questions. Google "YouTube and your question". You will get many responses.

Re: First time flying advice

There is a YouTube channel named "Travel Tips by Laurie" that has tons of helpful tips.  She is a pilot's wife and posts short, easy to understand tips on packing and navigating security and the airport.

I recently saw a tip from somewhere else to write down all your flight, iteniery, and other relevant information on a piece of paper so you will have easy access to it so you aren't trying to look at the info on your phone while trying to talk on the phone.

Have fun on your trip.

Re: First time flying advice

I can understand your anxiety but you will be fine.  All I would recommend is to get there plenty early so you will have zero stress checking in at the counter , going through security, and finding your gate.  We still get our paper boarding passes when we check in and have yet to use an airline app.  We fly often.   It all takes time that's all.  It's not "hard" to do just go with the flow.   Baggage info is on the airline's website. Good luck and have fun!

Re: First time flying advice

2 things -

If you're not taking direct fights, be aware there are some airports that are best to avoid. Someone recently told me they'll never go through Houston again (they had to keep changing gates only to end up at the original one).

Go to youtube and do a search for 'positive travel affirmations' and play thsose daily until you leave.

Don't check your bag if possible - take a carry-on.  Wear slip on/off shoes for security.  Liquids have to be in 3oz containers in a clear Ziplock type quart size bag.   (unless you're a TSA Precheck member.)

@Yahooey wrote:

the airlines charges for many items thst used to be free

if u are checking in luggage - find out if u get a free checkin bag or not

if u are placing ur luggage in the overhead compartment - find out the size

some planes have shrunk their bins and what used to fit may not...

check with the airline - i would think they have a page

before you fly - here is a checklist or something of that nature

of course - the rule about liquids - 3 oz containers that will fit in a 1 qt size resealable bag

i know i cannot bring food or liquids into the terminal

i must buy the food or water in the terminal

idk if that is terminal specific or across the board

i usually download my airline app - so my tix is on there

but i also feel more comfortable having a paper version also

everything goes through the machine - including shoes

so be prepared -

get there early - so you wont feel so rushed - trying to find the gate etc

good luck

@Yahooey thank you so, so much!  I did watch the video that @house_cat posted, and it helped tons.  Even when mentioning that I wished there was a YouTube video to watch, I hadn't gone to YT to see if there was, which would normally be the first thing I would do.  I am blaming my nerves about all this in not allowing me to think clearly.  lol

You did bring up some points that weren't covered 100% in the video that I watched.  1) Do I have to take the "liquids" bag out of my carryon and place it in the tray?  Or does it stay in the carryon and is scanned that way?  2) And if the liquids bag is in my checked bag, no need to worry about it, right?  3) Can I have a couple of liquids bags? See--I have no idea what I'm doing although on my most recent driving trips, I have bought things in mind of possible future flights so do have one travel set that meets the requirements.

4) Can I pack breakfast bars in my checked luggage?

5) I am so, so, so, so glad that you said I can have a hardcopy boarding pass as well as the digital ticket?  I feel reasonably sure I will check in with a person vs. the kiosk, since I don't know what I'm doing.  Will they issue the hardcopy boarding pass at that time if I ask them, too?  Or how do I get that?

6)  And my last question...is it okay to have medications and supplements in daily minder containers?  Or do they have to be in the original prescription bottles?

Thank you so much!  (If anyone else wants to jump in on answering my questions, you are more than welcome to...the more knowledge the better...)

You're have to take your liquids in the qt size Ziplock out of your bag but not if you're TSA Precheck.

You can take a fair sized "personal item" in addition to your carry-on by the way.

@Yahooey okay...again...I am blaming my nerves about this for not allowing me to look more carefully at the American page.  I scrolled down to the bottom and saw the bag link to check bags fees, measurements, etc.  Thank you so much for helping me with all this!  My anxiety has already diminished a great deal.

Yes, after I wrote that in my post about wishing there were videos, @house_cat posted one.  Good grief.  I promise I am an intelligent person with common sense, but the anxiety of the flight has clouded every bit of it.  lol
