Day trip to Petrified Forest/Painted Desert

[ Edited ]

Took the grandkids (7 & 9) to Petrified Forest/Painted Desert National Monument today.  Took 5 hours from my front door back to my home.  The Visitors Center was staffed and open but other buildings were closed.  Mostly we were in our car or walking the trails. The day was perfect ( nice weather, few people ) and kids loved it.  We had planned on lunch in Holbrook but both of our choices were closed ( so we had lunch at McDonald's).

I bet it felt good to get out and go somewhere.  It wasn't too hot?

We took our grandson there a couple of years ago. We really liked it.

I'm glad you got to go out and enjoy nature.

Re: Day trip to Petrified Forest/Painted Desert

The petrified forest was on my must-see list and I went there a few years ago in June.  Yes, it is hot, but very easy to social distance!

I bought a tiny piece of the wood as a souvenir.

I liked seeing the petroglyph carvings as well!

Glad you had such an interesting day and your grandchildren will have special memories.
