JANUARY: UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

Experience your own one thousand and one nights in Arabia, or rather 30, and spend your January in the United Arab Emirates. A city of extreme wealth and architectural decadence, visit in January and you won't have to be a tycoon or oligarch to enjoy it.

FEBRUARY: THAILAND

Beautiful beaches, mountainous landscapes, mystical natural phenomena, Thailand also boasts the status of being one of the cheapest long-haul destinations. Many of the best hotel deals are to be found in February, as well as the cheapest flights.

MARCH: SINGAPORE

Sticking with long-haul beginnings to the year, our next destination is the stunning island nation of Singapore, which is a place of stark and startling contrasts.

APRIL: SWEDEN

With its bottomless treasure chest of forests, lakes, and glens, Sweden is a magnet for nature-lovers. April sees the fraying of the Scandinavian winter and the arrival of a gorgeous spring where temperatures become far more bearable. More bearable still are the great prices on flights.

MAY: CZECH REPUBLIC

Pick May to be your month where you travel to the charming Czech Republic. This is the best time to make the most of reduced air fares and cheap accommodation.

JUNE: AUSTRIA

Austria is the perfect destination for outdoor activity lovers. Whether it's biking, skiing or rambling that tickles your fancy, this country has it all in abundance. Take a trip in June and benefit from all the wonderful natural assets of this beautiful, relaxing country, and of prices to die for.

JULY: DENMARK

Denmark is a magnificent destination just waiting to be discovered in July. Take a stroll along its beaches, through its quaint and charming towns; what's more, enjoy the balmy weather that finally arrives in July. If you want further uplifting, book your flights early and maximize on some sky-high deals.

AUGUST: IRELAND

How could you not fall in love with the land that brought us Guinness and pots of gold at the end of rainbows? Ireland boasts vibrant cities, a rich culture, breathtakingly unkempt scenery, and shades of green that will get you flying back again and again to the Emerald Isle.

SEPTEMBER: CROATIA

Set on the turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea, there's nowhere better in Europe for a tropical dip than Croatia. September is the perfect compromise between hot weather and less hot prices.

OCTOBER: PORTUGAL

Portugal offers clear blue skies all year round. Hardly surprising that its tourism numbers are soaring. Take a flight to Lisbon, and enjoy an amble along the banks of the Tagus. The mini-break from heaven.

NOVEMBER: SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa is truly unique and powerful destination. When the summer sun begins to rise in November, tourists begin to flock, like migrating birds, to its unparalleled pastures. With Cape Town recently named the cheapest long-haul destination for UK travelers, there's no better time to go.

DECEMBER: VIETNAM

Vietnam: "You don't know man, you weren't there!" - a phrase used by rebuking war veteran or returning full moon party-goers, and one that you could wash your hands of entirely. December is the month to go, when air fares decrease, when the rains ease and the swelter subsides, that is when you catch a flight to paradise.
