Always. And particularly day of the flight.

@rockygems123 @Still Raining Yes, I always check back because last time I tried to fly Delta they cancelled the trip but not until we got to the airport!

Merry Christmas!

@Scooby Doo , I hear you.  The flight is six weeks away so not mechanical.  Sadly, my experience with Delta customer service by phone is that, when they have no solution, they hang up and you have to start all over again.  We will most likely not be flying Delta...just finding another option.

Merry Christmas.

Air travel sure isn't what it used to be.

I worked for Delta in th 90's at headquarters in SF when Delta was considered to be the best domestic carrier.

That wouldn't even be saying much today.

I’m not defending the airline (I’ve had an annoying issue with them too), but my recent experience was much different than the OPs. I received a text that my flight was delayed and even received a meal voucher to use at the airport. I purchased my ticket directly from Delta’s website/app and set myself up for email and text notifications. I specifically say that because the OP mentioned a travel agent and that may be why they didn’t receive a notification. There may have been something in the way they booked it. Ditto if you use a site like Orbitz, Expedia. My understanding is that not booking directly with an airline also makes it difficult to correspond with the airlines. That may be part of the issue.

Re: Cancelled flights

[ Edited ]

@Alter Ego Thanks for your reply.  It is good to know you had good service with them.

The arrangement with the agent was for notifications to come directly to me from the airline.  I checked the reservations again was because they made a slight schedule change in one of the remaining legs of the trip.  I couldn't find two of the four flights booked so I pursued it and found they cancelled the two.  The agent got no notice either.

As I mentioned earlier, this is the second time Delta has left us high and dry, the last time  they had processed our luggage and then cancelled the trip.  We had to rebook on another airline and arrived with no luggage so you can understand why we have decided to skip Delta next time we fly.

These flights depart from Canada and it occurred to me that, as this is not their "home port" they might not have the same level of customer service here.  I think they used to partner with Air Canada but not anymore.

Anyway, I realize it is traveller beware these days.  I am sure that your frequent trips get you good service @Alter Ego .  I had that too when I flew a lot.

I am grateful that we found out in time to make other arrangements!  Merry Christmas!
