My son lives in Pompano and works in Boca.   I have spend a lot of time on the East Coast.  There is a lot to do.   Someone mentioned Delray which is also very nice    Jupiter Island is close and another fun place to visit.   Boca is very upscale. Forgot to mention that they aren't affected by the red tide and yes it's a nice time to visit.

I don't travel much but would agree Delray is nice...I could retire there!
