Re: Any tips for dealing with jet lag?

When traveling to Europe, this is usually 8-9 hours overnight(arriving next AM) so being able to sleep on the plane is a must.

I try to get up that morning very early such as 4am! By the time the plane leaves at 8-9PM, I am dog tired. I agree no alcohol,lots of water, pillow, a throw and comfortable clothing.

I sleep ok on planes but hubby not so good. On our first trip to Paris, we signed up for an overview bus trip through the city.I had slept but he was wide awake. We thought the bus would be a low key activity and then an early bedtime. My husband slept during the entire bus trip! We still laugh about this.

Thank you all very much. I am going to order the no jet lag medicine and will check out the pillow asap. Sounds great.

@wonderfulworld

A friend of mine who used to do a lot of travelling said the best thing to do is go to bed at local time, regardless of what time it is back home.   (Hope that makes sense.)

I did the same exact thing...slept through a bus tour of London.

I have ordered the No Jet Lag, compression stockings and a special neck pillow. The idea to get up very early is a good one too.

I thank all of you for your advice.

Re: Any tips for dealing with jet lag?

After overnight trip to Europe with little sleep we recently kept awake by taking a walk, visiting, etc and then going to bed around 8 pm. Worked extremely well for us.

Re: Any tips for dealing with jet lag?

For me, I have found that the more I relax the day before the flight, the better I can handle any time changes or challenges during the flight. I rarely have anything to do the day before I leave, because I have planned ahead.

What helps me the most is taking a long, relaxing bath the night before I leave. Then no TV, radio, etc. I go to bed early.

When I arrive at my destination, I take another long bath and just soak. I have read, and found it to be true for me, that taking the baths helps hydrate you before and after a flight.

Of course, depending upon some places I go, having a tub in the bathroom is not possible. But then I just stand in the shower for a long time. The point is to get hydrated and relax.

If I arrived in the middle of the day, I go out and do something to help adjust to the new time zone, not returning to the hotel until it is time to go to bed.

Since doing that I have found that I adjust to time changes easily.
