I have lived in three other countries besides my own, but I detest cold weather, so I'm out.  Smiley Wink

I went to Antarctica in January 2019. I went with Quark and we flew over the Drake Passage. However, there is still weather concerns going that way (we were delayed returning and was a possibility about having to go via the Drake anyways). A few days in Patagonia beforehand (gorgeous!) and a 9 or 10 day cruise. Had plenty of gray days, but also some crystal clear days that were unbelievably beautiful. We also stopped at Vernadsky Research base and crossed the Antarctic Circle. Again, you are dependent on the weather and, in our case, had a medical emergency, so we didn’t have as many landings as we would normally have. But there’s nothing you can do about that. For me, it was a one and done experience as I’m not a particularly social person and the ship held less than 100 people; helps to be social! Newer ships are very luxe, but even then, it’s not for everyone. And wasn’t always that cold.

Our friends went last year & she showed me her pictures which were mainly penguins. I’ve traveled all over & would have liked to go there but my husband gets very seasick. They said it was very rough especially the Drake passage. I also wanted to do the polar bear migration but am too old now. I completed my bucket list except for Egypt & the Valley of the Kings. I don’t do well in heat & both my husband & I had the misfortune of needing medical care on two of our trips. As you get older, travel gets harder.

There's wall to wall penguins there.  My brother did manage to see Orcas.  Starting in December, they come in toward the shore. They flew over them from Argentina. He took a ton of pictures.  But there is very little contrast between the vast white and rocks.  They looked similar.

He got sick coming back.  My sister-in law was horrified when she saw him.  His face was pasty white.  After a couple of days rest, he was a lot better.  But he loved the trip.  I think his enthusiasm caught up with him.  He's in his 50's. I think you have to be fit to take that trip.
