@Linda0215 Because so many posted more negative reviews I feel I must give you mine.

I just posted on another comment on the vitamix. If you are only making smoothies, then what you have is just fine. I do have the nutribullet but I also own 2 Vitamixes.

My favorite is making nut butter. I use just about every nut I can find then add a little bit of a honey roasted nut to sweeten it just a bit. My family loves it, asks for it every year and is disappointed if I do not gift it. The nutribullet, as well as any other blender, cannot do it.

I almost forgot, the dry canister. I make almond flour and mac nut flour. My other blenders cannot.

Yes, it's noisy, big deal. I am grinding nuts so expect it. I can deal with a little noise, I have young grandkids so know what noise is.Woman Very Happy

I also make hot soups. Yummy, and again, no other does it like the vitamix.

All my kids wanted a Vitamix for Christmas one year..

Again, if only making smoothies and blending drinks, then the Vitamix is probably not for you.

@cjm61  Thank you for your post.  I'm not really into nut butters or humus or that kind of thing, but I do know that the Vitamix is one of those buy it once and have it for the rest of your life type applicances.  Kind of like my Kitchen Aid stand mixer.  Even if I only use it three times a year, it's worth it.

@Linda0215  Haha, ya, I have the Kitchen Aid mixer as well. I too only use that a handful of times a year. But, when I need it, it is awesome to have.

I use my vitamix much more.

I just thought of something else.  I have made bread crumbs with it also.  You don't ever have to buy bread crumbs if you have bread on hand.

@Linda0215  I bought my Vitamix over a decade ago, and until this past year, I considered it a luxury/waste of money, BUT this past year, my DH had gum surgery, and was not allowed to chew food for some time.  I pureed all his foods, adding liquid as needed.  Like the caller last night, I pureed main courses, and DH said that the taste remained, even if the texture was gone.  My take on the Vitamix is that you don't need it until you REALLY do.

@CamilleP  That's really good to know.  I just might pull the trigger on one today!

@cjm61. I think your use of such an appliance depends on your family size and how much you like to cook.

I just cook for me and want things as simple as possibly.  8d never bother with soup or flour as long as stores sell it, and avoid calorie-laden nut butters.  I do make smoothies but have a Ninja and an old Oster blender from 1969, which work like champs and will pulverize anything including ice.

So, for many people, such a powerful, expensive appliance is unnecessary.

@Linda0215   I have had mine approx 10 years now.  I absolutely love it. NIf it broke down, I would definitely buy another one.

I have the Wolfgang Puck version that supposedly does a lot of the same things like soups and ice creams, but I rarely use it.  Luckily, I didn't spend that kind of money on it either.  It's my only real blender, but my husband makes his smoothies with the As Seen on TV original Bullet blender.

I also have a KA mixer and love it when I need it.  Mostly I use it for mashed potatoes.

Okay, thank you for answering.  I sort of had the feeling that it might be an impulse buy.  In my head I'm imagining smoothies, and ice cream, and hot soups and such.  But i also know myself.  LOL!

OK I have a different story.  I bought mine about a year ago and, no I don't use it that often.  But I have started using it more now that I have to get my diet back in order. (heart surgery) I make smoothies for health reasons and have made soup very easily.  The only thing is you need to buy the stuff that goes into each smoothie.  But, if you buy that stuff you can make many smoothies afterward because almost everything is a frozen product.  If you make soup you can buy the ingredients and make it the next day.  I have a few of their cookbooks and they have many options.  All-in-all it is a really good buy if you learn how to use it.  The noise only lasts a couple minutes and that doesn't matter when you see what you get.

@luvmybeetle   Everyone's health journey is unique. Our journey is one that we don't consume foods mixed/blended in a mixer/food processer anymore...liquid or solid.

That's just one aspect... Smiley Happy

My Vitamix is the most useless appliance I have ever bought.  I use it maybe once a year to blend whole tomatoes from my garden.

Other than that it sits in my basement on a shelf.

I wish someone would want it, I'd give it away.  My kids aren't interested.  Perhaps eBay?
