Bonnielu, I think you can still purchase the Microsoft Office software elsewhere - like Amazon or Staples. That way you would not have to pay for the yearly subscription. I think it's about $200 or so. I had an old version I was able to install on my new computer. The subscription thing is fairly new. It's about $69 dollars a year, and does assure you always have the newest version.

Portia, do you think I should buy the extended service. The computer is in my shopping cart. I am so in need but I could wait. It looks good to me because traveling with a tablet is not working for me. I selected the 15 inch with Microsoft Office. I did not get the carrying case and mouse, etc. I have an extra. I gave my laptop to my daughter who was in great need for it.
Do I need the contract?

bonnielu, I did not get the extended service on mine, and I usually don't buy those. You get a warranty from the manufacturer for the first year anyway. If you were going to be traveling with it, it might be a good idea. I just think they are generally not necessary. Of course, if I spill a cup of coffee in m keyboard tomorrow, I will wish I had it.

Has anyone's laptop shipped yet? TSV's usually ship pretty quickly but this one is still In Process. I'm asking because of the post about the Thanksgiving orders that sat in process and never shipped!

What Squeezebox said. The prices are NOT that good. The technology is usually old. You wait forever to get it and pay more too? Not a good idea. For what they charge for these cheapy AMD processors you could get a much better Intel processor. The list of reasons these are never a good deal go on and on.
I've purchased a couple of computers (NOT from a shopping channel of course) that had McAfee on them and that's the very first thing I will uninstall and replace with an a/v that is actually good. What is laughable is that they use the inclusion of McAfee as a selling point. It's quite the opposite and it behooves one to get rid of that asap.
