Has anyone bought a food saver or this food saver?  I would like to know if they work, had a problem with them, and could you find more bags?

@tampalady  I have had a FoodSaver since the mid 80s and LOVE THEM.  I would not be without one.  Mine have lasted a very long time.  I'm only on my 3rd since around 1985!  I purchase my rolls at Sam's Club when they have a sale. I use the big rolls that they show with the TS and the 8" ones as well.   Making your own bags is SO EASY,  as is using the unit.  I will tell you that I have NEVER experience freezer burn using the Foodsaver and have recommended it to many friends, who agree.   I purchase meats,  chicken, salmon, etc on sale and into the freezer it goes once I portion out what I want and then seal it.   I can't say enough good things about it.   You can even freeze baked goods because you can stop the unit from suctioning the air when you want which prevents crushing.

Also,  sometimes we will purchase a large block of cheese at Sam's Club,  cut off a piece and then I'll Foodsaver the rest for when we need it and stick it back in the frig.

I have a unit similar to this one but not exactly the same.

EDITED TO ADD ...  I would hope this wouldn't make a difference but I bought my last 2 directly from Foodsaver.  They have sales all the time.

I bought a food saver from QVC years ago.  I remember is was the same brand, picked yellow.  I tried and tried to get that thing to seal and it just wouldn't.  Gave up and returned it.  I don't know if I got a lemon but I do know I was using it right.

Best thing ever invented!  It has saved us thousands of dollars, and since the 1990 time frame we are on the second.

We always have great steaks on sale, and lots of other bargains and "leftovers" ready to eat and just like the day we saved them!

I can't imagine being without one.

We have had one for many, many years and use it all the time.  We freeze tons of stuff and when it comes out, it's like you just bought it.  I also use it for my dried herbs.  There are just the 2 of us and we like to marinate certain cuts of meat we get at Costco.  Way too much for 1 meal, so we divide in 2 or 3 bags with the marinade and freeze.  When I want to grill, I pull 1 out, let it thaw, and then cook it.  The removal of air helps drive the marinade into the meat and it's amazing.

I guess I'm in the minority!  I had one 20 yrs ago (from Q) but I didn't like it.  It was too big to be convenient, I never wanted to shlep it out to use it.  And I was always concerned the juices would get sucked into the machine-

Now they sell smaller hand-held vacuum units, and I like that much better, and way cheaper. JMO  ,

@tampalady  I bought a Food Saver on a good discount at Kohl's years ago with every good intention to buy in bulk and use it to make smaller portions.  I ended up not using it when I realized how much the price of the bags added to my overall grocery budget and would ended up cutting into my savings by buying in bulk.  One of our kids took the FS when they moved out. I have no idea if it's currently being used.  I think you can get the bags from Costco or the website, and likely Amazon too.
