The chunky loafers look, especially when worn with long skirts, I've often seen on willowy models in ads, or in Paris fashion features.  But have seldom seen on "regular" people, or older people.

Sure, if you're a model, you'll try anything. But these aren't really chunky:

The other day, watching a televised news conference, I saw a reporter in a long slim skirt, moderately slit-- I think it was corduoroy-- and socks, and loafers that were almost platform, they were so chunky. But they looked comfortable.

She looked like a charming, but hard-working person, rather short and trim, and not a "fashionista".  Her outfit looked great on her.  And she looked like she would be able to run and chase a story or an interviewee if she had to.

Here's what I mean about lanky models wearing loafers and skirts--

But the reporter was more this type,  not especially tall.  

   

For this more dressy dress, these loafers are flat, not as chunky.

Contrasting frilly socks with more practical shoes, is cute.

A lot of people prefer the more usual, sporty look of pants-and-loafers.  And this woman looks darling in them. I like that her socks are pink.

But being a fan of skirts, I do like the long skirt- and- loafers look.  She ditched the socks--

Anyway, my whole point was, you don't often see people working on TV dressing that way-- so it was refreshing.

My favorite loafers are flat, Clarks leopard print ones that are sort of sueded.  They're too beat up now to wear outside, but if they were more respectable, I'd wear them with a long skirt.

I wore the socks with loafer looks back in the 60's with dresses and skirts.

I haven't seen that look since then except for my best friend's aunt.  For as long as I have know her (most of my life) she has worn that look....long skirts, loafers and crew socks.

i do see where this is coming back.  I thought about getting a pair of loafers, but I remember the blisters...that gives me pause.

I have seen a few young women wearing loafers in NYC but honestly most people I see are wearing sneakers of some sort, or now boots.  However, I am retired so I am not out during the commuting hours anymore (thank goodness!) so I just may not be seeing the loafer-clad masses.

 I used to work in a college, and that was always a reliable indicator of what was in style.

And ankle socks did not need to be brought back, thank you anyway, Elaine Benes.

I have a huge stock of loafers in all colors and that is about all I wear.  I hate "athletic" clunky shoes and those big soles that you trip over.

I hate socks as well.  So I am a loafers and no socks person.  I wear them with crops, pants, shorts, skirts, and dresses.  I haven't been to a dressy event in years, thank goodness, so my feet are happy.

The only loafers I can wear are suede because they're soft.  But no socks.

I have loafers. I think they made a come back a couple years ago & have been growing in popularity. I've always loved socks, & I wear them in cooler weather.

I haven't seen many people in loafers around here.

   I love the look of them. I think they just look so preppy. I've never owned any but these cute pastel pink ones are on my list.
