I loved all his movies. The Great Escape and Bullitt. What I really remember is the way he kissed Natalie Wood in Love with the Proper Stranger. A certain scene, not all thru the movie.

Re: *** Remembering Steve McQueen ***

Oh gosh, I loved his acting! There are very few actors that could act as well as he, and there are absolutely none now that I think even come near his abilities. I'll still watch his movies when I see them on. Paul Newman had the same stage presence, that's the only one I can readily think of. Oh, Robert Redford and Clint Eastwood were and are some in the same category. I just saw "A Walk in the Woods" with RR and he's still good, IMO.

I was living in Sun Valley Idaho in the late 70's with my DH and would See Steve McQueen in the grocery store there in Ketchum Idaho quite often...   I ran into a lot of famous celebrities there over the 10 years of living in  Ketchum... I waited on Diana Ross and her family in an Italian Restaurant in Ketchum  when I was waiting tables... and  also ran into Mac Davis the country singer too when I was working on the Mountain and he was up at the restaurant on Mt. Baldy getting lunch after a day of sking...... and of course  Clint Eastwood... he filmed Pale Rider in Sun Valley area and my Husband got a job on the crew for special effects on the film... saw Clint Eastwood everyday and ate lunch with him!

He was so handsome in Thomas Crown Affair.  That kissing scene is one of the best:

The Great Escape was great.

McQueen made it even greater.

Don't get me wrong, because I love Bullitt ... in fact, I just watched my recording for the umpteenth time ... but my favorite is The Magnificent Seven with Yul Brynner.   The two of them together ... be still my heart!

Gone way too soon at age 50.  Remember he was married briefly to Ali McGraw.
