I was excited to watch this series as I read the books years ago.  However, I was very bored with it.  I made it through the first episode but that is enough for me.

I loved her books but could not get into the Scarpetta series. I stopped watching after the first episode.

I binged watched all the episodes yesterday and the best thing I can say about the casting is the similarities between when younger and current was remarkable.

Beyond that the casting did not live up to my impression of the characters.  I'm okay with Kidman as Scarpetta but just okay.

My thoughts about Benton Wesley was that he was the type that when he walked into a room he dominated, not in an aggressive way just by confidence and looks. 

As much as I've liked Baker in the past I feel he was miscast and came across as almost timid and unassured.

I always pictured Marino as older than the other characters by a few years and being stocky with a bit of a paunch in physical appearance.  I also pictured him as disheveled but not scruffy.

Finally Lucy.  I always viewed her as imposing and somewhat physically intimidating nothing like she was presented.  I also pictured her as blond, white and a bit in your face when confronting someone.

The blending of storylines from two or three early books would be very confusing to someone that is new to Scarpetta.

All of the above notwithstanding I'll more likely than not watch season 2.

It had been a long time since I have read the books.  I was so addicted I was on wait list for each new addition. I bought or rented books on tape at the time, and the reader was exactly as I pictured Kay would be. However today,  I did a little skulking and found this AI pic of Kay on Scarpetta page on Facebook. This  is how Kay would  look at 40. I don't have Facebook,  so I got it off a free page.    In the the actual books  she is tall,  thin, very skinny as a kid. Blond hair, and wears designer suits, and likes wine lol. My image of Pete, and think many people...is more like Dennis Franz, from NYPDBlues. Yes he was balding, paunchy, a little sloppy.   As far as Lucy goes, she was neglected by her "flighty" mom, had a bunch of issues.  Lucy is  MENSA smart, a computer genius, even as a young child. Her character seems ok to me. If one of you can find her physical description out there, let me know. It's the one thing I couldn't find. Lucy went to  Quantico where she was bullied because of sexual orientation. I think she was promiscuous in bars until she found a partner. She was always buying helicopters, expensive cars, homes, expensive equipment. She got a lot of money from somewhere. Forget.  I was brushing up on characters.  I guess I will just go with this series for what it is. Not totally what I had hoped, but what book to series is?   I finished 2nd episode, it was better than first. It is slower than it should be. I agree on a couple miscasts.

@shoekitty   I totally agree with your description of the characters.  I didnt see Kidman as Scarpetta at all, but as the series continues she was fine. 

For those that stopped after episode 1, dont.  Keep going.  I think the first 2 or 3 episodes it seems is a set up for the characters. It gets better, with minimal gore.  I dont know why they started the first episode with that but i had the same feeling.  It is much less going through the series.   The last episode sets it up for season 2, but not typical Scarpetta ending at all.  It was an ok series.

I watched two episodes and agree it was a little gruesome.  I also don't generally like the past/present method of telling a story.

That being said, I will probably continue.

I had read at least one of the books years ago. I recalled enjoying it and thinking it fit my definition of a good mystery.

I am enjoying the series. I watched about 3 tonight. I was glad to discover something entertaining. It took awhile to get used to the back and forth, but I am enjoying it.

@Somertime ,I hadn't watched a Prime movie for awhile and was surprised that they had commercials. I am not going to pay extra though(so far). Goodness! isn't the yearly charge enough! already.

I usually either like something and give it a chance or move on , this is a hard one for me , on paper it looked should have been great , A class actors , but it is not very compelling , i think it is because the way the storylines are structured , also the acting is not very convincing , Jamie Lee really seems to be overacting , and it isn't he charater she is playing , surprising Nicole Kidmen is underacting. I will finish but for me it isn't very good. Also i was thinking , i don't think Nicole has been very good in anything for years , but she keeps getting all of these parts. In fact i haven't seen anything very good original from Prime , for quite some time , But they do have a great library .
