I've given up on any shows that have sci-fi, future world, alternative universe elements. To me they start strong then after a few episodes lose focus and become convoluted.

@Etoile308   @lmt

Boy, you hit the nail on the head with that observation!

Last season was the first (and last) for DEBRIS .... it was convoluted to begin with, but by the end it had pretty much sorted things out ... but ratings had dropped and it was too late to save it.

With sci-fi,  it takes special writing to draw viewers in from the very beginning and hold onto them.   LOST had a strong start, but even that got a bit discombobulated as time went on.   Sci-fi tends to be like that, unfortunately.

Re: New Show LA BREA on NBC

[ Edited ]

@Etoile308  @Tinkrbl44   I hear what you're saying. These kind of shows don't seem to do well.

In recent years I've watched The Event, Revolution, FlashForward, Lost, Manifest, The 100. Some were really great shows. Some started out slow and got better. Some were good and then went down the drain.

I'll give the series a shot. I like shows that are different than the usual standard fare. At least it beats another reality show!!  Smiley Wink

I've had enough of these types of shows after watching The Zoo, Under the Dome, Falling Skies and Wayward Pines. The writers seem to only have a storyline for the first five or six episodes.

@deeva   I read the books that The Zoo, Under the Dome and Wayward Pines were based on. They were all good books. I watched a few episodes of The Zoo and Under the Dome and I can say the books were much better. Since I never watched either show all the way through, I can't say how bad they got.

Now, Wayward Pines. I loved that show!! The first season, not the second. I read all three books that Wayward Pines was based on and I can assure you that the books were way, way, wayyyy better than the series. So much was cut out of the show.

I'd like to see these sci-fi shows as miniseries, sort of like the American Horror Story series does with theirs. But I'm still going to watch this new one...looks interesting.

@SilleeMee   You make a good point about the miniseries. These types of shows should be in this format. A beginning, a middle and a definite end.

I think problems arise when they drag these shows out for too long and then have no idea what to do with the storyline.

No desire to watch.   Any time it is even brought up in a commercial or anything I flash back to the smell from visiting the La Brea Tar Pits as a kid.
