Suspense and film noir fans, if you've missed this before on FXM, it's really good, and different.
Embittered, newly blind, playwright Van Johnson is in London for the production of another of his successful plays. Relaxing in his favorite pub, he overhears what could be a murder or kidnapping plot behind a screen.
Scotland Yard is skeptical, esp. since he's blind. His only allies are an ex-girlfriend who shows up, and his starchy British valet/assistant, who help him engage in some very dangerous sleuthing.
Van Johnson can play ambiguous, conflicted but sympathetic characters very well-- it's too bad he didn't get to explore this side more often. He was superb as a somewhat 'masked", cynical campaign manager to politician Spencer Tracy in "State of the Union"...
