Did you like this movie?  The scenery was beautiful and learning about the greek traditions was very interesting. But oh my goodness that mother was beyond obnoxious. Throughout the entire movie I kept telling the girl to run from both her soon-to-be husband and his mother.

I didn't like the way he felt that she should just give up her job and dreams so that he could follow his.  It was almost like he tricked her into going to Greece so that he could bully her into moving there.  This is an extreme example but it sort of reminded me of the movie "Not Without My Daughter".  Once he got with his family then she was expected to live there and just accept the lifestyle.

If this was a real life situation I could see all kinds of problems for her.  Who would get engaged to someone without a discussion of where they were going to live?

She appeared to be a strong woman but yet she accepted him not standing up to his mother.  He was far too wishy washy for me.

I wanted to like it but didn't for the exact reasons you gave----the obnoxious mother, the demanding groom and her willingness to give in to being intimidated. I didn't like the Hallmark movie before this one either.

I agree they went a little far with the mother. For someone who thinks family means everything and tradition tradition tradition, to go and buy a wedding dress was way too far fetched given the bride’s mother would make her dress (as she repeatedly said.) That’s really what annoyed me the most.

Re: Love's Greek to Me.

I agree with the feeling towards the mother in law to be. OH my.

I agree the scenery was gorgeous. One of my brothers got married in Greece. It was gorgeous overlooking part of the Agean Sea. It was in '92. My sister in law is from Greece. I remember a good portion of the wedding and the traditions portrayed in the movie were close to what took place at their wedding.

The marriage is still going strong. So are the others of us who got married afterwards.

@J Town GirlThe scenery was the hit, the characters not so much.  The old worn out awful obnoxious mother in law bit was tiring I fast forwarded and it was just a continuum.

This weekend or next on Hallmark is another obnoxious mother in law themed movie only it's both mothers. The Wedding Contract.

What a yucky trend for Hallmark.

Why does Hallmark go for the cheap, easy plot tropes? The loud, interfering, ethnic mother-in-law has been overplayed ad nauseum. The scenery was spectacular. The story, not so much
