Had To Turn American Idol Off

The strobing lights got to me, triggering a migraine.

I hope the strobing doesn't become the norm  or I'll have to rely on recaps instead of watching.  I think I need a button to black out the screen.

WOW!😮 I am REALLY sorry this happened to you!😔 Hopefully, it is just something specific to tonight's broadcast because it sounds like you are a fan of the show, and it would be ashamed for you to have to stop watching for that reason!🤞🤞

I hope your headache gets better soon!❤🤗

@Marp.  There is a button to black out the screen.  It's called "OFF".

Re: Had To Turn American Idol Off

@Marp I am sorry you are suffering. I have migraines and am especially light sensitive. For a while the Hallmark movies were filming into the sun or other light. I looked away, but sometime I was too late. I hope they stop at American Idol so you can watch. The movies have stopped for the most  part.

Re: Had To Turn American Idol Off

Thanks to all the for sympathy which is much appreciated.

I'm always reactive to strobing lights to varying degrees but for some reason the show last night really got to me.

Ended up just listening which is what I intend to do with tonight's show.

LOL, instead of storing my eclipse glasses maybe I'll keep them handy.

Hi @Marp    I am sorry you had the problem with the strobing lights.  I didn't like them either!

Several good singers this season, in my opinion!

Re: Had To Turn American Idol Off

I never realized the reaction could happen from watching something on TV.  I was under the impression it had to be within one's immediate surroundings.

Re: Had To Turn American Idol Off

@JeanLouiseFinch,  most of the time when the lights are on TV they don't bother me a whole lot but other times the reaction is immediate.  For some reason the lights on last night's show was a problem.

In person the flashing lights on police cars always bother me at night and if I were driving I would have a real problem.  Fortunately I no longer drive at night.

I watch On Patrol Live and there are times when I have to turn away from the flashing lights on the police cars and other times they don't bother me at all.

There is no way I would chance going to a venue where I had reason to believe there would be strobing lights.  Can't even handle a lot of the Christmas decoration venues because of the flashing and rapidly moving lights.

Still, I consider myself fortunate in that I only get migraines not seizures.

Re: Had To Turn American Idol Off

@Marp   As a fellow migraine sufferer, I feel your pain!  How unfortunate that the lights effect you this way.  I don't care for flashing lights, but they don't bring on a migraine.

You'd think, in this day and age, there would be a medication that would help with this.

I agree that it's fortunate you don't get seizures, but it's still an incredible inconvenience (to say the least).
