I don't think I'll continue watching. It seems unnatural, forced.

Flower, I enjoy reading your posts. It's interesting to see this show from your vantage point.

I think I will give it another chance. I didn't stop watching it because I thought it was making fun of Asians negatively, I just thought it wasn't funny.

I've always felt that this politically correct era has gotten out of hand. It seems like no one has a sense of humor anymore. My grandma (who raised me) was American Indian, so I have had a little taste of negativity toward others.

However, I also grew up (68) in an era when everyone made fun of everything. We all knew there was no malice about it. It was meant to be funny on TV.

Annabellethecat, thank you for your kind words. I enjoy all of your posts too and look forward to reading them many times.

Its odd, but true, many Asians have a very unique sense of humor. To many, it isn't funny but that doesn't stop us! Smiley Happy Often I listen to Joseph Prince and his jokes are wildly funny to his Singapore audience and I "get it" too! However, to the American audience, it falls flat and the laughs are few. Many are self-deprecation in style, like the British do. Asians, like Hispanics, seem to have no problem at all in making fun of themselves and their race and though many see it as an insult and definitely NOT politically correct here in America, its totally accepted in Asian countries.

One of my favorite bloggers got into some of the differences and the cultural variances of "being Chinese" in her blogs last year. Her name is H. Y. Hanna. I found her blogs while reading her blogs on her late, wonderful great dane, Big Honey. She is an independent writer and her books, both romance and suspense as well as her Big Honey books, are enjoyable.

I like this show. It's funny. Based on truth. I like modern family and the Goldberg's. Don't like blackish. The little girl and teenager are disrespectful.

The perm thing had me miffed. I had no idea that a perm would be a sign of success. I just don't understand why a woman with beautiful straight black hair would get a perm.

I wasn't sure about the first episode, then the second one was better.

I think it has really good potential and the actors are good.

Most of America is not familiar with much of Asian culture and imo it's time to have more Asian actors and performers. The woman who plays the mom really sings well, that's a bonus. I saw an interview with Randall Park (who plays the dad), he's funny and incredibly bright.

OR, I think a person has to have Asian hair to kind of "get" why straight hair is annoying. Most of us have thick hair and strange hair growth patterns not to mention how it feels. as far as texture. It takes some work to get it to lay right and to feel soft and touchable for many. Many envy the Caucasian curly hair, or wavy hair and the soft texture they have. Since I'm half, my hair has a lot of curl to it but believe me, its thick and unruly and my brother often refers to it as "Samoan hair". Kind of kinky and wiry and annoying as can be. Now I have friends who envy my hair and wish for it and I wish they had it! {#emotions_dlg.w00t} Yes, my brother is a smart mouth and rude at times! {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

Flower, I enjoy reading your post. I don't have any Asian friends. I remember I used to call people Oriental. My adult daughter (who has traveled all over Asia and collects Oriental furniture) said to me one day, "Mom. Oriental is a kind of furniture."

I always remembered that. My friends know that I am not at all prejudi,ce. I always tell them, "If I say something that bothers you. Please tell me because it is due to my ignorance. Not out of malice".

I will watch the show again, with a different set of eyes. You helped do that for me. Thanks.

I do get upset at this politically correct world. I know there are mean and rude people in the world, but I think most people are good and they're like me. They are just ignorant about something and not mean. I don't mean ignorant about stupid (I'm far from stupid) but ignorant in that I wasn't aware.

Does that make sense?
