Do you have a favorite all time movie, that you think is really worthy of being called, excellent?
For me, I ran into "Marty" once again on TLC. I have seen it many times, and each time I think what a poignant, wonderful American movie it was and still stands the test of time.

@Flatbush - You set the bar high!
What I consider excellent someone else might not. But the first movie that I thought of, that I would watch over and over again, is Sayonara.

I have so many and different genres would be different films. Probably at the top of my list would be "36 Hours" w/James Garner and Rod Taylor.

" The Best Years of Our Lives". This film is about post WW2 and 3 men returning home.
It is the first film I watched (as a child) where the plots, acting, etc were explained on the TV by Harold Cohen and Stepanie Diamond on Channel 2 (KDKA ) from Pittsburgh,PA.
I could write on and on about this film. One of the veterans has lost his hands and that actor that played the part had indeed had lost his hands. It was a film far ahead of its time(excuse the cliche').

Easy choice for me--Casablanca. Next choice The African Queen. Both of these movies have nothing wrong with them, IMO. Excellent stories, acting, direction and Casablanca has music. Both have stood the test of time. Never get tired of watching either one.
