Re: Barbie movie - July 21 Good Times!

I'll wait for it on t.v. Like Margot Robbie and Ryan Goslin, but we'll see.

There are a lot of reviews that say the film is smart and  surprisingly relevant and deeper than it may seem!  I am curious! 💋

I saw a preview last night. I thought it was fun. It’s not a children’s movie, it’s rated PG-13. I thought it was thoroughly appropriate for teenagers though.

Re: Barbie movie - July 21 Good Times!

I'm going Friday with my daughter and teenage granddaughter. Looking forward to seeing it. What's wrong with presenting Barbie as an empowered woman and hasn't Ken always just been an accessory?  What is wrong with the message to be happy with yourself even if certain segments of  society don't like you?  But whatever it opened with a $155 million box office last weekend blowing other movies this year out of the water.

It sounds to me that many people are overthinking this movie. It's about a DOLL questioning her existence. It's not real, just go and enjoy the movie (or don't go) and don't feel that everything has to have a message. If one gets a message out of it, that's good, but don't go expecting to learn anything. It's mostly fantasy entertainment.

I'm kind of amused that some people are overeacting to a movie about a doll children played with.

People are being told to overreact without even seeing it, it's the usual exploitation of trivial matters. After reading some things about it I would see it.

@Greeneyedlady21     I highly recommend seeing Barbie. It's a fun movie, entertaining, some laughs and a few not so subtle messages. Let's say Barbie has taken her place in the 21st. century. All of the actors were good. I especially loved seeing Rhea Perlman who portrayed Ruth Handler the creator of the Barbie doll. The scene where Ruth is advising Barbie at the end of the movie had me tearing up. And if you go stay to see the ending credits where they show the Barbie dolls through the decades. My teenage granddaughter is going tomorrow to see the movie for the 3rd. time and my millennial daughter is going Tuesday to see the movie for the 2nd. time.

The theatre was a sea of pink with everyone from teenagers to seniors like me and a few guys sprinkled in. And it was a packed house.

One of the most entertaining movie-going experiences I've had in years, especially in a packed theater.

Visually stunning, funny, sly, clever, it also packs an unexpected emotional wallop, as others have noted.

I will definitely see it again.....and perhaps again.

(And the soundtrack is also Barbie Fabulous!)
