Prayers to the residents!!
When my mother visited Hawaii back in the 70s, she saw a firey eruption from a distance. I'm not sure which island she was on.
When we were there a few years ago, Kilauea was smoldering in spots.
Where we live, we are just not used to such natural phenomena.

And here's the 24/7 live view from a home nearby. Someone else had posted a link to a "live" view that isn't live. This is from Honolulu Civil Beat.

The last time we were there the volcano was only emitting lava from the bottom, not the top. At the time it was flowing to the ocean and when it reached the water would shoot up huge billows of smoke.
I was surprised how close the rangers allowed everyone to be to the flowing lava.
There were even tours being run to take people to the volcano after dark to view the red hot lava against the dark sky.
As we walked down the road to the volcano there were signs warning parents to not bring young children near because of the toxic fumes. But, of course, there was even an infant among the young children.
That entire half of the island is barren, only black volcanic rock everywhere. You feel like you are on the moon. The other half of the island is lush.

I had put up the LIVE STREAM link prior but it went down...so they put up another live stream....which Fox and Cnn are both using to film... the house is high up on the live stream - and there is a large open front porch/deck area where all the cameras are located, filming outside the house.
This video was just something from a different angle..not live, but worth while.
Below is who began the Live Stream.... I really admire their efforts and I continue to support them.
They have tee shirts too...sort of cute....lol.

When were you there?
There is a video “Who lives at the bottom of the volcano?”
I didn’t watch it but guess I will._.. do you know if things/people live there?
Thanks for the info! I am really wondering about the toxic fumes.

My family took a Hawaiin cruise to several of the islands in 1999. I can't believe it has been almost 20 years! We were able to see Lava coming down the side of the volcano at night from the cruise ship. However, it was safe for us to go into the Volcano National Park and explore around. I have some great memories and that was probably the island I enjoyed the most.
I feel sorry for the people losing their homes. I do remember seeing back then the roof of a house or two that had gotten covered with lava.

Thank you so much for posting these links/images.
And your support keeps it going!
Here are a couple tweets I found showing the behind-the-scenes and
Rusty, the LavaRooster we hear from time to time!

@LTT1 We were there about 5 or 6 years ago. I don't remember any houses in the area because the area is government land - national park. Of course the volcano has since affected a much larger area since that time
There are quite a few gasses emitted, such as carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide among others.
