@KKJ. @KatieB@Starpolisher  Some people have a strange personal definition of rude or nasty.  I had a long career dealing with the public as an area manager of a government agency.  It was not unusual to get a complaint that an employee had been rude to a client.   I would ask in what way was the employee rude.  In most instances, I'd be told, " she said I won't be getting my benefits".  In other words, if you don't get a reply you want or like, the person is "rude" even if you were treated courteously.  Knowing this to commonly be the case, I disregard such remarks.

Re: What ever happened to elegance?

The casual trend started years ago and although I enjoy dressing casually I must admit I do miss dressing up once in a while.  In my 20', 30's and even early 40's friends had holiday parties, office holiday parties, etc.  We even dressed up for New Years Eve parties in a sparkly top or dress.  Now the only time I wear a nice dress is a wedding.  Lord and Taylor department store was my go-to for a nice dress and now they are going out of business!

There is probably an appropriate middle ground between "elegantly dressed", whatever that may entail, and looking like a lazy slob, which has become the norm for a few.

@Johnnyeager   Elegant just means stylist, neat, well turned out and simple.  Many here do not know the meaning of the word elegant, thinking more in terms of regal.

@Nonametoday  totally agree.  There is no need stay in your pajamas all day long.  That's called lazy ... unless you are ill or infirmed you need to get dressed and show up every day.  It' called living.

Re: What ever happened to elegance?

Life is so much more casual these days. While I live a casual life style now I have memories of a grandmother who could "get down and dirty" with the best of them (on the farm) and put on a long gown with red nails and beautiful jewelry.  I loved going through her closet and looking at the gowns or sitting at her vanity and looking at her jewelry.

The only thing that kind of bothers me now is going to church and seeing the worship team (singers) in jeans with holes in them or very faded and ripped out in the knees. I appreciate all these people singing and the time they devote to it, but I just would like to see them up their game a little for church.  I guess it was the way I was raised and I know God doesn't love them any less.... but even God loves beautiful things!!!

Gone with the time I guess. My thing is what happened to kindness and morality and things like that.  Fancy dress I can do without.

The politicians still dress up.

Using a thread about this topic to make a political statement is pretty darn pathetic.

I do think people today are realizing that being comfortable is important, too.  Maybe it is an age thing but I don't miss high heeled dress shoes one bit!  Also, it is just too expensive these days to have huge wardrobes for all different occasions.  It used to be you wore this to a funeral, this to church, this to wherever.... so at least now, we don't have to "fuss" over what we are going to wear  (within reason that is).  I wouldn't wear bright red to a funeral....but then again....that's just me. There is definitely two sides to the coin.

@jubilant   I think there is a time for everything.  I time to dress up to go uptown, a time to dress down to go downtown and a time to wear an apron and do one's work.
