For those who say we ignore things in real time, yes, we do.

BUT, we also have tools.  We can now block unwanted phone numbers, or email, or even cut ourselves off from certain people in life.  No, not always, but the tools help.  So does the ignore feature here.

Re: Update on the Ignore button feature

I don't see what a poster's self-control or lack thereof, has to do with an ignore button.

The feature isn't intended for those having hissy-fits.  The purpose of the ignore feature is to ignore those who suffer from lack of self-control, enabling posters to interact with others in peace if they so wish.

Yes this. If it were for the other reason, I wish more would actually use it,  lol!  Smiley Wink

I have never used the ignore button but I certainly understand and appreciate why people do use it.

good points RD.

I would think that if all posters had self-control when it came to baiting, insulting, name-calling and the like there would be no need for an ignore button. But, we know that isn't going to happen!

thank you for letting us know.  I would have thought this would have been beta tested first before offering this new forum to us and noticing that the ignore button was "missing".  As I am very familiar with chatboard features and since this is a very much requested feature, you can get this for 2015 if you truly wanted to  - there are developers for this software and discussion boards over on the software site that the Q uses - and you can work on getting a plug in created.  You do not need to wait for someone else to release it, the Q, with all of its revenue, could have a programmer develop that plugin feature and add it in here.

That software does allow that capability.  I have created plugin's for chatboards (different software -  minor stuff - nothing big), so it can be done.

biancardi, thank you for sharing your perspective on this. I'm not a techie but it had seemed to me that an ignore button would have been a real basic option for any chatboard design. It's a real shame that this feature has not been included. Actually, not including this feature probably creates the biggest headache for the moderators. In the end they have to handle all the cleanup.

@Keyai in any case, thank you for your straightforward update. You've been really helpful and I really appreciate it. Unfortunately, this time, you're just the bearer of bad news and I can't imagine that you're happy about it either.

I think what bugs me about the Ignore feature is the chatter that goes along with it...

--I'm going to put you on ignore!

--If you don't like what I have to say, just put me on ignore!

--Just put that poster on ignore!

--Why isn't anyone responding?  Did I get put on ignore?

Must say I'm glad we won't be dealing with that in 2015. Smiley Happy

You're right, that will probably take care of the occasional poster who likes to bait in that way.

But, without the Ignore Button, some folks just get caught up a fast moving frenzy of phrases, and it can get out of control really quickly. So the ignore button can be a good thing becasue they might never even see these posts.

It seems to me that we're trading some annoying baiting, for more intensive baiting which will just end in more threads being deleted.

And I find that frustrating.

P.S. In the three years that I've been posting on these boards I've only used the ignore button once. And, even then, I only kept it on for a few months. It just made my board experience more relaxing and enjoyable.
