Timeframe to cancel an order

First, I love QVC.  I buy a lot from QVC and rarely is anything I purchase sent back unless it doesn't fit or doesn't look right on me.  I just ordered some beautiful items for Christmas for me and my family who live in other states.  However, I realized I will be traveling out of state when the packages are scheduled to be delivered. The first thing I did was change the delivery date.  It was a more expensive postage rate.  Then I realized, I can just send these items to my family and tell them not to open the box.  It took about 20 minutes total to change the type of delivery and order the items  to be sent to my family.  I then went into the items that needed to be canceled, at the more expensive delivery rate, and was told I can't cancel it.  In 20 minutes or so, it was already in process.  WHAT????   Now on one hand, that's great.  However, it doesn't give the customer enough time to alter the order.  It's a waste of time for me, QVC, the post office, etc., not to mention the amount of postage I'm going to pay for something I no longer need.  I will not get that money back. If QVC will tell us how long we have to alter an order or wait at least an hour before we can no longer change or cancel it, that will be better for everyone and prevent situations like mine.  I've just wasted a lot of time and money.  I will have to send these items back and I'll never get back the significantly larger cost for the delivery.

Can QVC please set a timeframe to cancel when ordering items?  Even if it is on the screen after the order request is made, at least the customer will know and can work on any changes swiftly!  I thought I did that, but apparently I wasn't quick enough.

Re: Timeframe to cancel an order

@Happy Aunt J I would suggest you only place an order once you are 100% sure you want it. Don't go into the purchase thinking you could cancel within a certain timeframe.

I don't blame QVC for reducing/eliminating the time you can cancel. Too many times people place orders only to HOLD items until they decide. That may be a loss of sale for QVC when there are other customers out there that would order the item and not cancel.

Re: Timeframe to cancel an order

@Happy Aunt J

Yesterday, it was LESS than 5 minutes!

As soon as I ordered a shorts and top outfit, I realized that I had already ordered it and sent it back!

Less that 5 minutes later I could cancel the shorts part of it, but not the top!

Called CS and they couldn't cancel the top part either!

I told the CS Rep that I had no intention of paying the return label fee, when the order was only placed less than 5 minutes ago and she said she'd mark my account that I should not be charged that fee.

Good!

While rumors have swirled that it can be done, ALWAYS assume anything you order from QVC cannot be cancelled.

If you don't want to return it, be prepared to give it away or donate it when the package arrives.

In this regard, QVC is NOT user-friendly.

Re: Timeframe to cancel an order

Not that many years ago we had around four hours in which to cancel.  Now, as you state, it is virtually irreversable. HSN allows you to cancel up to midnight of the day you place the order, but I realize that is not useful if they don't have merchandise you want.

Lots of times I buy something on a whim, then go read the reviews, and cancel. I've never had a problem.

I noticed too some years back you could cancel an order sometimes for a whole 24 hours. Now, it seems almost immediately no editing or cancelling the order.

Re: Timeframe to cancel an order

I buy a lot from Talbots because they are great about having petite sizes.  I know their quality, trust the reviews there, and am sure of their measurements and sizing.  I can't cancel there but will take the risk happily.

QVC?  None of the above and can't cancel.  Also, even if it turns out backordered you can't cancel.  No fair there.  So, I don't buy much--especially not pants. Also, prices are now very comparable with Talbots but certainly not QVC fit and quality.

I buy casual clothes a lot now from Appleseeds, Lands End and Old Navy.  Love what I've gotten and love the prices.

Re: Timeframe to cancel an order

I think the bigger picture part of this problem, is that while they won't let you cancel the item very soon after you purchase it, is the long, long time you usually have to wait in order for it to ship.  I wouldn't mind the close timeframe on being able to cancel, IF they would ship it right away.  It makes no sense to say they are "preparing your order", when it takes days, and sometimes almost a week for them to ship it.  Does it really take them that long to prepare your order?
