Re: Suggestion for the Moderators

As long as there are people that want to argue about everything nothing will help.

Some posters do a terrific job arguing when people don't have the same mindset as them.

Not sure if it's been mentioned before but why not add a "thumbs down" icon next to the heart icon on the message screen so that we can just click it to let the OP know it was not a kind or appropriate message rather than arguments on the forum which eventually cause the post to be removed. I'm sure there will be those that still want to vent but maybe it will eliminate some of the long ranting negativity. Just my opinion.

For starters, because as a reason for having a Thumbs Down, one person's 'not kind' or 'not appropriate' may not be another's. Not to mention there is no There Shalt Not be "Negativity" commandment for the forums.

Then there is the thorny problem of argument vs opinion. Yes, some people ARE argumentative, but there are also people who expect every post in a thread to agree with them, and who consider anyone who has a different POV, no matter how neutrally stated, to be mean, rude, argumentative, negative, "trying to ruin MY thread", etc. No one person should be deciding "the rules" according to their particular preferences.

Do you think that will stop the arguing?  I don't.

I can even see it creating more arguing.   Example:   With the "hearts" we've learned we can click on the number and see who "hearted" a post.   So...  with a "thumbs down" feature, someone sees several "dislikes" on their post, so they click on the number to see who added them.   Then, they list all the "dislikers" and ask them why they disagreed...  and arguments would ensue.   I can't see how it would make anything better, and I do think it's likely it would increase animosity.

Or keep a list of all their "dislikers" and hunt through the forum thumbs-downing all of their posts. An extension of some of what already occurs.

Re: Suggestion for the Moderators

I don't think the "thumbs down" or the "hearts" are necessary. The old "ignore" feature is one that is needed and should stop argumentative people. This is an opinion board, and we're all adults who should accept and expect differing opinions.

Sometimes, I believe, a moderator removes a post because of "differing" opinions. I had a thread removed because "it could turn into an argument." It hadn't yet, but the possibility was there. A thread should be allowed to remain until it becomes argumentative, b/c every thread will have differing opinions. That's what a debate is.

Ya I got a few suggestions...LOL...Anyway, it is their board which has been mentioned. So they are going to poof anything they want. So you can continue to express your opinion, as I will do. If it gets poofed, it gets poofed whether it deserves to or not. Hopefully someone will read it and get a laugh or something out of it before the poofers arriveSmiley Happy

Re: Suggestion for the Moderators

I don't like the Thumbs Down idea

and I don't like this new Thumbs Up

icon either.

Wish they would fix what's broke

before they tinker with the boards.
