It seems that QVC practically forces their hosts to have QVC-connected, "official" FB pages where they are to push QVC goods any way they can as the first objective, and get viewers to obsess over the hosts so they will buy more from QVC as the second objective.
Some hosts have little to no problem knowing when and how to gracefully inject just enough personal info into things, but not TMI. Some hosts' FB pages are just continuations of their on-air segments. I find that annoying (and I unfriend out of boredom) but not a Big Deal.
And some hosts are...maybe the "oversharing" type in their private lives, maybe they believe the world is their friend, maybe they're of the generation that shares every.single.thing online, in public, and has never experienced NOT doing that. Maybe they just don't know any other way to get those sales and ratings. I don't know. But they need to understand that everyone is not their friend, and have a plan to keep things under control.
What I think is that show hosts should have "official" FB pages, and *if they want to*, private, vetted FB pages by invitation only, where people can be banned after rude comments. The QVC pages should pretty much stick to QVC topics more or less. The pros know how to do this. The personal pages could be anything the host wanted to say - with the host being responsible for their page's contents, maintenance, banning, etc. and QVC people responsible for doing the same on the Official page. Yes - I think if QVC makes them do this "officially", then QVC should be there to stop the **** slinging on a QVC page. On their private page, anything goes.

I have always suspected that the QVC hosts & hostesses who have FB pages do not actually post in them. QVC provides an in house publicists whos only job is FB & Twitter postings.
All folks in the "entertainment" business have them.

If that were true, they wouldn't post half of what they do. Seriously. You pay people to get people to like you, not vilify you. Some hosts have learned the hard way that you can't "share yourself" without being very careful and very savvy. Professionals would be doing a better job.

I think the hosts used to use their QVC facebook page as personal. I remember reading them a couple years ago and they were remarkably different than they are now. i think the powers that be took over and started writing their daily posts here and they are used to promote QVC shows, vendors, products, and direct us to other QVC hosts facebook and their lives. It happened about the same time they took over these boards and started to monitor things here. I find what the hosts write now on the facebook pages as very phony, very sales-oriented, very pushy. I don't like this approach by the management.

Many times, people who work in the media keep multiple FB pages. The public ones which can be seen and accessed by fans as well as private ones.
I see this frequently with people who are television and newspaper reporters. Their public pages can be seen by everyone, but they utilize a different name on their private pages which can be seen only by family and friends "in the know."

See, I don't think it IS management, I think it's intelligent hosts trying to keep QVC happy by promoting QVC goods, and at the same time not revealing too much so the eviscerators can go to town on them. The more personal information, and especially personal opinions, a host puts out there, the more they are opening themselves up to becoming *personal* targets, as individual humans, to the Jill the Rippers of the internet. Sticking to QVC matters keeps QVC off their backs, and if the customers drop off out of boredom, at least they aren't shredding the host.
