Product Testimonials

[ Edited ]

QVC still asks/begs for viewers to call in and give their item testimonials.  Those calls can be charming, but often cringe.

I noticed that HSN is now asking viewers to give testimonials as well -- but on their social media pages, especially Facebook.

Hurray!  Put those testimonials on social media QVC, not in the TV broadcast.  I know not all customers are on Facebook, but what will testimonial callers do if QVC stops broadcast TV completely and becomes 100% on social media platforms?  Just a matter of time.

I just turned on Q at 9:30 a.m. EST and on Kim's show ,a woman was talking about losing her best friend husband of 39 years etc. several years ago. These calls are not related to the item sold which I assume is the original purpose?

Off the Q channel in seconds. Yes... @Caaareful Shopper  Cringe

This has been brought up many times here @Caaareful Shopper . Some hate them and some don't mind, I am the latter. I halfway listen. Yes, some can be cringe worthy but it doesn't bother me.

I look at it more that the caller needs to talk to them and if it helps them in their difficult times, that is fine with me. If just one phone call makes a difference to them, I can choose to listen or ignore.

Kim's callers do seem to be more emotional but I believe that is because she comes across as more genuine and compassionate with her customers. I'm usually busy around the house when listening, sometimes they capture my attention and I will stop to listen and other times I just keep on going and don't even recall what was said.

@cjm61  I do appreciate what you mean about the calls.  But I don't see them as helping QVC sales.  QVC already created a separate channel for Kim's loyal fans to call her whenever they like.  But other shoppers who really want to shop can get stumped by a maudlin call and immediately turn away (as I do).

Those calls are a staple of a long ago QVC.  I just think they are another example of QVC not pivoting into the 2000's.  Is shopping still seen as an all-day therapy session?

I like @cjm61 are not botherd by them.  I dont watch that often,  When I used to call in to order they would ask if you wanted to speak on air and my answer was Thank you, but no.

Viewer calls are an automatic channel changer for me. I just don't understand why people get so excited and gushy about talking to a host, let alone talking to one on air.

I don't watch QVC on TV. It isn't entertaining for me to sit & watch it. I just go on-line & watch the videos about the TSV. I comment on the forums & blogs. Then I'm done for the day. I don't want to sit through the testimonials on TV.
