Your ''float to the top'' option is useless. No matter what I do, float to top or unfloat to top, it brings me to the middle of a thread. All I want is for the newest post to show up (newest to oldest, oldest to newest, still can't get to the newest post). Among Friends has a thread called Sidewalk Cafe. Every time I go to it, they show me old posts. All I ask is to be brought to the first and newest posts. I just tried today and got the St. Patrick's day posts I read weeks ago.

The "float to the top" just brings a particular topic that you choose to the top of the list.......not the latest posts. (I don't know how to get "latest replies" either......)

Oh, really? What good is that? I still hate this new site. They don't know what they're doing. Hence; neither do I!
thanks

@Judaline, The "Float" option is designed to "pin" an entire thread to the top of the list of threads. When you "Float" a topic, that means every time you choose a forum that thread will appear as the first one you see.
It's not designed to affect the order of replies within a thread.
@Judaline and @Desertdi, To customize the order of responses, within a thread, you go into your Settings, under Preferences, under Linear Layout, and you can choose to see the oldest reply first or the newest reply first.
You also can check "Jump to first unread post in a topic" if you want to be directed to the first unread post within a thread, after you've clicked on the thread subject line.
To customize the order of actual threads, go into Settings, under Preferences, under Topic Layout, and choose to see newest or oldest thread first.
Be sure always to click "SAVE" at the bottom of the page any time you change a setting. Also, remember they only are in effect when you're signed in and also that you can change the settings any time you want. I strongly recommend only changing one at a time, so you can see how each option works.
hth! I haven't had any caffeine yet... so I might not be understanding what you'd like to do.

I wanted to add: you can change the sequence of threads or replies within threads, "on the fly," with the drop-down menus you see at the top of a forum or at the top of a thread after you've opened it.
See those drop-down menu options to the right of the red words "NEW MESSAGE" at the top of a forum (click on the word "Options") or to the right of the red word "REPLY" (click on the words "Topic Options") at the top of a thread once you've opened the thread.

@Judaline, This "Float" feature is helpful for those who frequent certain long-standing threads, or who might want to see an active thread at the top each time they choose the forum, that sort of thing.
I think if you'll try out some of the customizable settings, as I detailed in the other replies, you'll find them to be really useful. Just be sure to save the change, and only make one change at a time so you can go back out to the forums and threads and see how the feature works.
eta: I like the new platform for the most part. All the settings and features take time to get used to, but I like the fact that we have so many more options than we had with the old forum layout.
hth!

@dooBdoo Thanks, my head is spinning but I'll try these once I have the time it's going to take me. I'm a slow learner!!

Aw, don't feel bad, @Judaline! It's new to all of us, so we're in this together. I'm a one-step-at-a-time learner myself. I spent some time "walking through" the settings, and I'd try one, go back to the forums and see what changes it made. Then, I'd go back to the settings and "un-do" what I did and try a different one, until I got some results I like. But just ask... the posters here are great, and so helpful! We can try to work out the kinks together!

I wish there was a way to float the OP to the top of a long thread when we have it set to show the most recent post first.

I miss that, too, @wildcat fan. The only feature closest to that is the "View discussion in a popup" option when we reply to a thread. (Located just below the box in which we type our response, it displays the thread in a separate tab or window.) But it's not the same as being able to see the original post at the top no matter which page we're reading.
