"On your period" seems strange to me.

I cringe when people drop "I" out of words.  It has become so common place, I want to scream. Our local newcasters do it daily now.  But who am I to complain because I am "fixin" to do something all the time and to my ear from the South that sounds perfectly normal, haha..

My pet peeve is when a host says "these ones". Many of them do.

@frenchie,

The first time I heard this was from my daughter and then from my younger daughter! I thought did I not teach them correctly? My daughter insisted no it's these ones.

I cringe. To me it is redundant and sounds awful. However I looked it up and it is not incorrect (but should be in my mind!).Many do not approve of this wording but many others use it. It is so unnecessary to say both these and ones.

I had never heard this before until recently from my daughters. Has anyone else? I suspect the younger generation!

There was a thread about "realtor" having a extra syllable....I can't move my tongue from the "l" sound to a "t" sould without and extra "?" in the word.  Can you?

 @Zhills,

I know! Me too and when it is said without the extra a it sounds like someone is  slurring their words or drunk.

Of course the way we say it is correct Woman LOL It doesn't matter how it is spelled.Silly peopleWoman LOL

Why is a soldier now called a troop. Used to be a troop was several people such as a Girl Scout troop. A trooper sounds more correct to me. I don't know.

I've never heard an individual soldier called a troop, so I can't answer that one!  Woman Wink

(And a trooper, where I am, would be a state policeman/woman.)

I have enjoyed seeing all these "pet peeves!"

One that has always driven me absolutely nuts.....

A jeweler sells jewelry.  A jewel-er does NOT sell jeweler-y!

I hope I never come across a realator who is selling jewelery.

BTW....we in MA go "down the Cape".

I appreciate your post especially since it has two of my personal "favorites:" realator and jeweler-y!  Yes, if I ever met a realator selling jeweler-y, it probably would put me over the top too!

My Mom was a jeweler and sold jewelry!  Woman Happy

My sister is a realtor/broker and sells high end  real estate, not real-a-state.

Unfortunately, in my state, we definitely don't "down the Cape," though.

I might as well throw a third one in here whileI am at it.
