My iPhone has a "light" and "dark" setting.  If I select "dark", it's a black background.  Maybe that's the OP's issue.

I would LOVE to see and so appreciate a new and heartier/beefier spell check.  I use it with every post I make and it always finds words that are spelled right but apparently not in the database so it underscores it as misspelled.

@ducedog1    I think you may have hit the privacy setting by accident.   None of us are having that problem.  Google how to change it back
