I  wholeheartedly  agree ...... I was really shocked to see that QVC actually ALLOWS all the religious threads .....   in spite of their protests to the contrary, and excessive poofing!

Either QVC needs to disallow ALL religious threads .... or institute a place where posters can discuss politics.

ITA.   This doesn't even make sense.  They specifically don't want religious or political discussions here for so many reasons.

I'm absolutely certain that there are MANY religious boards out there in internetland.  This is a retailer's board and it has no place here.

Those of us who have been here over 10 years remember the political/current events forum they once had.  It was pretty messed up, of course and as usual, due to a few bad apples.  There are even more bad apples now and nobody wants to be preached at.

ITA with all you have said - BUT QVC has chosen to wholesale ignore their own prohibition on religion/religious posts, and seems happy to have them, unlike posts and threads on politics.

"Nobody wants to be preached at."

QVC apparently believe that "everyone" DOES want to be preached at, judging by their total acceptance of proselytizing and sermonizing posts. (Yet again I reiterate - it is ONLY the OTT don't-know-when-to-quit posters I refer to, definitely NOT all religious reference or discussion.)

And all of that being so, if QVC is actively happy to have religious discussion (while at the same time stating it shouldn't even be here), then providing a forum for it would do two things - stop QVC's hypocrisy on the issue, and provide a place for such posts so that those who wanted to could avoid them - and have such posts moved or deleted from other areas where they are off-topic.

But in the end, I believe that above all, QVC wishes to coddle and protect one belief system/religion above all others for the sake of revenue. They are marketing to that and will continue to shield it, specifically.

But as it stands now, religious proselytizing (different than mention of/discussion of belief) is okay with QVC WHEREVER it occurs, and politics is verboten ANYWHERE it occurs.  So if they create a politics forum and politics are to be discussed ONLY there, the same should go for religion - to be discussed *within the forum* and not in threads where it is off topic.

Hi Moonchilde!

Yeah, you are totally right that it DOES need to go one way or the other.  These are areas where there is no grey area.   Either have forums for the two subjects or make them 100% verboten.

Obviously, I think they need to go with verboten because there are just too many problems here to be able to have grown up discussions.  That's a shame, but I guess there is no denying that that is the way it is unless they decide to ban posters who cause trouble.  I don't see that happening any time soon either.

I also agree that there is one religious POV that seems to be the 'accepted' one and, well, *sigh* that's just wrong.   I'm non-religious so I see a broad POV on all of it.  Again - all or nothing.  Smiley Happy

Are you requesting this so you are not offended when reading 'religious views' in other forums ... or are you going to participate?

Some people are so intolerant of others. If you don't like religious topics don't read them. Simple solution.

You're missing the point here ......   do you like it when people following some other religion preach at you?   Probably not, because it's VERY annoying.    No one is even suggesting cramping your style .... just take it elsewhere.

There are MANY religions in the world, and, worldwide, Christianity is a minority relgion .... only approximately 30% of the world population.     That means 70% of the world population believes something else.

Thank you for your post, CB.

I know that it's easy for those passionately involved to dismiss me as just anti- that religion, which I'm not. The only thing I'm anti- are posters who consistently go over that line of knowing what is discussion and what is force-feeding inappropriately, and when the comments don't belong in a thread at all.

To me, the most logical and simplest corrective action, creating specific forums aside, is for the moderators to delete such posts within threads where they don't belong and/or when they cross the line into sermonizing the words of others rather than their own experiences - or in the case of political posts/threads, deleting personally abusive posts. I also like how sometimes the moderators will come into a thread with a gentle, polite "hey now, watch it!" reminder. To me, if people can't take the hint, their posts should be deleted.

But, again, I'm sure that the moderators are letting inappropriate posts remain due to instructions from higher up at QVC, based on perceived revenue and perceived customer base. Politics are a no because politics doesn't make them money.

They didn't even care what the point was, Tink. They have just (both of them) started following me from thread to thread to snark just because. They do it so bizarrely inappropriately and so full of bait that it just makes me SMH and chuckle. Subtle, not 😉

As to the rest of your post - yup.

I don't consider this a solution at all, and certainly not simple.  I should be able to go to "among friends" and open an innocent-sounding thread without being assailed by a sermon complete with scripture.  There should be no question about the content of such threads before they're opened.  Are "believers" the only board members allowed to be "among friends"?  The "friends" are pretty much hostile to everyone else.
