Moderators - Something to think about -? Solution ?

I have observed a trend that will surely increase - it has certainly increased in the last 48 hrs. A poster will start a thread that is completely within QVC guidelines, intended to be so. Most posters keep it within those guidelines.

Then posters come along who, either because they disagree with others, are literally incapable of posting without being offensive or controversial, or *choose* to be offensive or controversial - ruin the thread for the OP and everyone else who was enjoying it.

Due to the guidelines the moderators have to follow, anyone who wants to, or several 'anyones' can purposely get a thread deleted by these tactics. The OP and the original participants did nothing wrong and yet their threads are able to be trashed deliberately simply by the injecting of posts the posters are making for that express purpose. That does not seem right - that those who follow the rules are able to be victimized and controlled (and in a way controlling the moderators too) by those who flaunt the rules.

I would rather see, on the whole, POSTS and/or POSTERS deleted than a thread deleted. If a thread has 50 posts and 30 of them should be deleted, then delete them - without deleting the thread.

If many threads are deleted or closed to posting (a better option) then the inappropriate posters still control the forums - something the Social Team has been working hard to prevent.

However it's done behind the scenes, I wish the moderators would discuss/come up with internal rules regarding how many very deliberately inappropriate posts a poster is allowed before they are warned, and how many after that before they are banned for knowingly continually posting inappropriately. I don't need or want details, but I really hope it's something the Social Team and the Moderators are thinking about - otherwise all of those who play by the rules, as well as the Moderators themselves, will still be manipulated by the deliberate rule-breakers.

I totally agree with this idea/solution.  Please don't delete the complete thread.  Deleting the post is a better way to handle this. IMO

I notice it looks sometimes like a deliberate sort of trolling
to find certain topics or even certain posters
and then adding replies that are surely to upset people
and get the thread poofed.

I wonder if the Mods notice this activity.

We know that deleting a lot of posts (and having to read them all) is labor-intensive and not fun, but doing that and deleting posts vs. deleting threads means the unruly and defiant deliberate rule-breakers don't win. I would think that would make the moderators feel they did a good day's (or night's) work.

nzsusie, it was standard operating procedure on the old forum. I think a clear message should be sent from the Social Team that it ain't gonna fly on the new forum. We can but hope ;-)

I hope they do too, newsie. And I really hope the "wear 'em down with so much karp that they'll wholesale delete everyone and everything" will not work. Some groups of posters have already been deliberately taunting and insulting moderators all day. I sincerely hope lists are being made as well as tallies, and there is a finite number of insults/"chances" posters get before they are turfed.

The whole "I'm big, I'm bad" thing is so juvenile. Adapt? Get with the program? Nevah! Revolution is all!

Whatever ;-)

This post has been removed by QVC because it is inappropriate for our forums.

I'm glad the moderators are removing these posts, but I hope they are also able to make some use of them, for future reference, before they delete them. They need to be deleted ultimately, but I hope they are read far and wide and names noted.
