Mod squad: please explain this auto notification

Some people are seeing this message prior to being able to post:

Your post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body. The invalid HTML has been removed. Please review the message and submit the message when you are satisfied.

and do not understand its meaning (and/or what HTML refers to) and think that the wording of posts was changed.  It's my understanding that, in fact, a code was not being picked up correctly or was in error, not actual words.  (I have never had any wording changed in posts where I received this message.  In fact, it only ever happened when I changed the font before starting to type.)

I already mentioned this notification several times in the other thread about QVC changing posts but this particular was not explained.

Could you explain this?  Thank you.

There is a tech explanation for this, I'm sure (I think it's been addressed here, in fact) - I just re-submit and it goes over fine.

Re: Mod squad: please explain this auto notification

It's been explained in my different forums. It means that the software changed some code to ensure it would be properly formatted. It's most often seen when you copy and paste something from another site, which brings along that site's code with it. The system removes or alters any code that doesn't belong.

Re: Mod squad: please explain this auto notification

I do know what it means and said so in my posts.  I am not having any issues with it.

However, since it was not addressed in the couple of times I brought it up in the other thread about QVC changing words in posts, I wanted the mod squad to explain it to those who don't.  It seems that some people on the other thread  received the notification but did not understand that it was about code.  Instead they seemed to understand it as the words of the message were being changed.

I doubt anyone reads all the threads.

@GingerPeach, maybe the moderators are not explaining this issue everytime it comes up because they have seen many posts where other posters have explained this to their satisfaction.

Then maybe they could have had the courtesy to point out the link to the response/explanation as they have done with other questions.

I don't think that is too much to ask.

Instead they ignore it?  No wonder people continue to be frustrated.

I agree homegirl, not everyone is on here 24/7 to read all the posts.  The mods are there very quickly to poof a post, they certainly could take the time to answer your question.

As others have said, the notation simply indicates the system software checked the post for possible embedded HTML code that might cause a problem.  Most of us have advised that you go ahead and submit the post, then review it for any changes.  Every post can be edited or deleted.

Yes, it's been asked and answered several times, but no one is here 365/24/7 to see all the questions and answers (although since some of us are using the tagging feature, a search might easily locate some answers for us).

I get the impression that some of the moderators aren't programmers (nothing wrong with that, by the way), and if you're not involved in writing or troubleshooting code some of the issues we've seen are better answered by technical staff.  It might be helpful if the Q Team enlisted the aid of that segment of the staff for answering some of the questions we have -- just an idea, not sure if I'm correct here or if this is possible.

Hi @GingerPeach,

From time to time, members might get a message like:

"Your post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body. The invalid HTML has been removed. Please review the message and submit the message when you are satisfied."

This error is the result of the built-in HTML parser that is used to control what HTML content members can and cannot post. When a member tries to use an HTML tag or attribute that is beyond their permission, they will receive this error. The system strips any tags the member does not have access to or that are invalid and enables them to review their post as necessary. Typically this error occurs when member unintentionally copies erroneous HTML from outside sources (3rd party blogs, forums, RSS feeds, word documents, etc.) and paste them into the body of their post. This HTML tool is part of a security precaution for the new forum platform.

This auto feature is not editing the text in a post.

I hope, despite some of the techincal language, that this explanation helps clear up the questions many have had about this message that is received.
