I just received my "Mr. Food" cookbook in a HUGE box. I wasn't sure it was the book. That was all that was in the box!!! mind you this is NOT a hardcover book or anything!! When I saw the s&h of $6.22, I decided to measure the box. The box is 13x9x6, the book is 9x8x1/2!!!!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING???? I only ordered ONE BOOK,,,not the 6 that would fit in the box!!!!!! That is ridiculous! Shipping costs are figured on SIZE as well as weight I don't order a whole lot anymore from Q and this is a big part of the reason. I look a the Q price then add shipping before I decide to buy. So much of what I used to buy is available locally or on Amazon that it just doesn't make sense to pay these ridiculous s& h!

Re: MASSIVE SHIPPING BOXES!!!

I have had even larger boxes for small items like your book...you open the package and look down inside at the poor lonely item laying there....kind of a funny picture wouldn't you say.....hahahaha.....

Back on point....it is a shame the huge boxes they use for small items...why can't they ship it like Amazon does....I have ordered books from Amazon...also Barnes and Noble and never do they arrive like that....

You are so right....the s&h has everything to do with size and weight....when I ship from UPS they always take that measuring tape out...they don't believe the printed size on the Q. boxes....hahaha....

Re: MASSIVE SHIPPING BOXES!!!

I know I am in the minority here, but these arguments do not ring true. If you do not like QVC]s shipping and say you could get it locally or at Amazon, just get it from one of those sources. Secondly, and more importantly, Amazon and other vendors ship like this all the time. I just received a similar size package from Amazon for a single book. I recently received a box large enough to hold a microwave oven from Amazon containing a bottle of lotion, a package of cake decorating tips, and a decorating bag.

So, while I may seem harsh or snarky, please do not blame QVC for something almost all shippers do!

Re: MASSIVE SHIPPING BOXES!!!

I recently ordered a cookie sheet online because the site had free shipping. It saved me time from driving to the mall to get it. It came in a box that was big enough to hold a microwave. There was lots of filler in it, so the sheet wouldn't move. When it's cheaper or makes sense to buy local, that's what I'd do.

I was under the impression that the OP does now buy locally or from Amazon those items she can buy there. A particular Mr. Food cookbook might be only on QVC. I used to buy gift cookbooks shown on QVC from Amazon because they were always about $4-5 cheaper *and* free shipping. QVC got wise to many people doing that and now many of their cookbooks are QVC exclusive for 6 months or so. So I just don't buy them, and gift something else from somewhere else. I don't buy items online (from anywhere) and pay high shipping cost to worth fees. I go with merchandisers who offer free shipping or reduced shipping costs. The only exception to this is an item I literally cannot get anywhere than the one supplier, be it QVC or wherever. There aren't many instances of that for me.

LOL, you and I must buy from the wrong Amazon. While I shop more at Amazon just for the fact they have more things I want, I often get about the same service as here. Depending on what I get and I imagine where it's shipped from.

Re: MASSIVE SHIPPING BOXES!!!

I received a 18 x 6 x 14 box from pampered chef today that contained one 8 x 5 x 1/2 item. I received an even larger box from amazon last week that contained a single mug. It's not just Q.

I would love to get something in a box from QVC instead of the flimsy plastic bags.

Re: MASSIVE SHIPPING BOXES!!!

I've gotten things that were packaged in ridiculously sized boxes and envelopes. In contrast I've ordered jewelry from vendors on Ebay that came in a small black cardboard jewelry box, in an envelope roughly the same size as the box. Why do I have to get the same sized black jewelry box from QVC in an envelope that is 18" long and 10" wide? That's the difference between $2.99 in shipping on Ebay and $6.72 in shipping on QVC. I've gotten a pallete of makeup in an envelope that was packaged in a box that you could have housed a pair of snow boots. What's the point to that amount of packaging? An envelope rattling around unfettered in a box is not going to give it any additional protection.
