Ice cream machine presentation wed.June 7,A.M.

When I am serious about purchasing a product,I watch the presentation carefully.I found so many of my questions ,unanswered.I am not interested on someone tasting all the many flovors shown,I am interested in,facts about cleaning the machine, cord length, how many servings does it make, ect.I turned off the T.V. and realized ,I didn.t know what I needed to know.Give your viewers information on the product, not people ooing and awooing over each flavor. Also,if it sold out in 8 minutes,as the host stated last time it was on the air...where are the reviews??

No question, you are right on all counts.  Rarely do I see a presentation where all the important information is given.  I guess if you only need to see David's Yum Yum face as a recommendation, you could purchase without any doubts. But I also like to know what I'm buying based on more than a 50 year old's love of food.

One thing I've noticed is that Mary is really focused on the products on her kitchen show, whereas David is primarily interested in the food - eating it!

We need a greater variety of hosts for kitchen shows. Same old Same old just isn't going to keep a thinking audience fascinated forever.

I agree. I was actually looking for  an  ice cream maker,  but they did not give a lot of important info. They stand around trying to make it look like fun,  and forget to give the facts.

Seriously, if I was going to buy an ice cream maker, I'd buy a Cuisinart or similar mainstream brand, not one from QVC's house brand. When you think about how reliable and high-functioning, and "good value" QVC's house brands are overall...I wouldn't bother. Go to BBB and use a 20% off coupon and get one that you know is the industry standard for home ice cream makers.

I hope I have some really good cooks here, which I am not.  I have a Vitamix, one of the newer ones.  I tried making ice cream and it was watery.  Does anyone have a simple recipe for ice cream.  I have frozen strawberries and milk, but I really need someone to let me know the process, procedure, whatever that would work for me.  I just want a snack. I tried to watch the presentation but did not see how it was done.  I only saw a presentation of colors and  David eating the finished product.  I guess I missed it.

Ice cream requires 1-1/2 c milk, 3 cups heavy cream, 1 C + 2 TBSP sugar, pinch of salt, and 1-1/2 TBSP vanilla in addition to the fruit. You add the fruit the last 10 min. This makes 7 cups of ice cream. You can either mix it with a hand mixer & refrigerate for a couple of hours - or not. I never bothered. I just mixed it all (except fruit, chips, etc) in a bowl, poured it into a frozen cylinder and turned it on. Last 10 min put in your ad-ins.

Re: Ice cream machine presentation wed.June 7,A.M.

I remember reading or seeing on a show where when David does the 'happy dance' it's because things are moving slowly and the guy who feeds stuff in their ear tells him to do it.

Everything is supposedly done for a reason.  You are right about the ice cream thing.  I didn't (in all that time) hear anyone talk about cleaning the thing.

I buy a lot of useless QVC stuff (you have no idea) and I passed that one up.  I'm not a big ice cream junkie (only certain kinds, etc) so it wasn't difficult.  I did keep getting frustrated because all they did was eat the ice cream.

They do that a lot with a lot of the appliances they represent.  At least David doesn't 'play' with the food like Wolfgang Puck does.  If you want a "UGH" factor google some of the comments about him dipping his fingers constantly in the food and licking it, wiping his nose, etc.

All I did was ask, "Who eats all of that food Wolfgang Puck cooks" and well....the comments were (let's say interesting).

Why would we pay any attention to someone who works for the company selling a product telling me it's delicious?  I don't mean to bust on QVC, I'm just saying they DO work for QVC.

@Moonchilde  I think @bonnielu wanted the Vitamix recipe.  While your recipe sounds wonderful, I hope she doesn't try it in the Vitamix.

@Kachina624, it would just probably over-mix if she used it full speed. I don't know that it wouldn't come out.

But you don't really need to mix it very much. I never do, and my ice cream is fine.

And there's also the stove method (supposed to be smoother & creamier) where you put all the ingredients in a sauce pan and I think bring to a simmering boil, refrigerate, and then pour in the machine. Some recipes use an egg or two. I think those are more like frozen custard.
