I have several times wondered through Costco to look at pricing to see if it would be worth the membership and discovered the few items that I would save on still didn't save money in the end after paying membership. I also put a price on my time, shopping bulk eats up half a day, therefore I have never signed up for membership to any of those kinds of stores.

That's not what it means at all. Costco and Sam's were originally for business customers only. They paid a fee to join like a co-op. The prices were and still are significantly lower in bulk even though they now allow the general public to join. We spend $140 for our membership annually and with just the two of us and our pets, we get a rebate check back from Costco of at least $300 every year.

@songbird Home shopping is not set up to send 6 bagels to someone. The profit margin cannot support business at all.

Perhaps you can go in on an order with a friend or relative

Buy local if your freezer set up is not big enough. I understand as Im single but it is what it is.

I can only imagine the price and shipping cost of food item if it was broken down into 2 or 4 items.

Some things are sold in bulk for a reason. It's too expensive for companies to package in 2 or 4 pieces. The price we'd pay would skyrocket because of the cost of packaging materials and extra staff needed.

We have a good bagel shop here in town. They make their own and they stand up against anything that can be purchased elsewhere.

The bagels in Weis may be from the same company but they are not exactly the same. The ones on QVC are baked fresh and shipped the next day with no preservatives. That is why you are instructed to immediately freeze the ones from qvc. I doubt the ones at Weis are shipped fresh everyday.

The cost of mailing something perishable is very high and built into the price. I once heard a vendor say that shipping is a big part of the price. Food on qvc is not free shipping as they say; if they seperated the shipping fee out no one would buy.

There are just the two of us now and we have not stopped buying in bulk at the warehouse stores. Costco and Bj's. Plus the Gas prices are the lowest around.

What we get back in savings and points more then covers our membership fees. So that is not a concern at all. We have the room to store what we purchase. Plus the kids come and "shop" at mom and dad's warehouse making it easier on their budgets. Just being the two of us now does not stop the savings.

I have a Costco reward of $657 to spend there or to deposit at my credit union. That's on top of the smaller one that comes very close to paying our membership. We are two old people and an old dog 😜
